Where to find d15b vtec solenoid??
I have a 89 crx which i put a d15b vtec motor into.. ran great for a while, but during a recent downtime the solenoid got burned up.. primarily because I am lazy/cheap and simply had a switch on the shifter rather than a controller for the vtec.. and the stupid button got held in for.. a couple of days at least.. more than enough to fry a solenoid... just doesnt work anymore.. where can i find a new one??
and maybe a cheap controller since my computer wont do it...

i would check ebay first for the solenoid and controller. also go to a local junk yard or pick-a-part or whatever auto wrecking yard is in your area. getting a vtec solenoid off a car shouldnt be a problem its unlikely the reason its junked is cuz the solenoid so it will probably be good.
also it will be cheap...at least where im at our wrecking yards are cheap for little parts, its almost like the charge based on size.

find a D-series vtec head.....all interchangable stuff the d16z6, d16y8 im not sure what other D-Vtecs there are but those 2 come to mind.
you can also do the "minime" swap...put either one of the above heads onto your block...there are tons of write ups that will show you how to do this and what all you need. not too expensive either...

I would not recomend running a switch without any different fuel or ignition tables. If your ecu does not support VTEC and you don't have any controller, than it will run too lean and not make any power and also burn up the motor.
You might also have a clogged solenoid. Take it off and inspect it and clean it out because it could still be good.
If I were you I would just buy a re-chipped OBD0 B16 ecu and use that. That way it will support your fuel and ignition and also if and when you decide to go to a dohc vtec, you are already wired.
