Hey guys,
Not on here often as I am from the UK, but I am currently having a real big problem with my B18C4 EJ6 EBP Coupe. I have asked about on a few UK forums but with no joy. So I thought I would come on here since you guys know alot more than us UK boys
OK, long story short. I took my car last year to a company called Spectre Customs, who were going to rebuild my B18C4 for me as my piston rings had gone. Took it to them, after agreeing a price of £600 and 2 weeks labour. Got the car back after 5 months and £2500 later ($5000), drove it 500 miles and the engine blew up.
Couldnt take em to court cos I had no proof, no receipts, all cash in hand jobs. So over the past 6 months I have been saving and recently rebuilt the whole car pretty much (yeah they [freak]ed it up that bad).
Here a short spec of the engine...
B18C4 1.8l 16v DOHC VTEC (UK version of the B18C1 basically)
UK Spec Type R Cams (not as aggressive as the JDM ones)
Yonaka Catback Exhaust & Decat
AEM Short Ram
Hondata S300 ECU on a P72 OBD1 with conversion harness (OBD2b to OBD1)
The most baffling part of this problem is that it only occurs when the engine is up to temp. Basically what happens is, when the engine is up to temp, when the engine is put under load, ie. pulling off from stand still, uphill starts etc. The engine will go to stall, it will miss and splutter and stall. By giving blow back through the intake and make a horrible mooing noise (yes like a cow!) and the vibrate the whole car (half burnt fuel comes through the intake!).
Also when you full throttle it at low RPMs ie. in 4th gear at 30mph. The car will go to stall instantly. Also at standstill with launch control activated, if you full throttle it it will bounce off the limiter once and instantly go to stall, unless u lift your foot off the throttle.
It's an extremely strange problem, as every sensor is spot on. brand new lambda sensor, map sensor ok, brand new engine loom, brand new interior loom, ecu ok, dizzy ok, timing spot on.
I have been told it could be the conversion harness, as it does look a little shitty and the connections are slightly corroded, but surely if it was electrical it would happen all the time.
I am thinking it might be TPS sensor, cos that would explain the dodgy idle, especially when cold it starts like the engine is hot, so wont idle above 1000rpm. Is there a way I can test this?
Please help me! This is the only thing wrong with my car at the moment, and its doing my head in! Especially since I am supposed to be going on the Modball 2008 with it, which is like in a week and a half
Thanks for any help in advanced!
Steve

It just might be the conversion harness... I had the same problem on warm starts starting out in first gear get upto 2800rpm or so then it will bog and not rev even at full throttle just sit there and girgle.
swaped to a chipped obd1 ecu and it never did it.
swaped back to my converted obd 2 and yep it did it again right away..
mine is a usdm 98 itr in a 94 obd1 chassis

No not yet, didnt want to get it tuned until this problem had been solved.
Still running on a B18C4 basemap. Surely that wouldnt cause the problem. I know plenty of people that run their cars fine with the basemap fine.
