Default LS FD in 99+ Si Trans

My buddy is putting a tranny together for me and I was wondering if a 99+ Si transmission with a LS differential with FD gear would be a decent tranny to use. I will be tracking this car about 3 times a year hopefully more. I will be making 400+whp and driving the car daily. I was just seeing what you guys thought and what it'd be in comparison to. Like would it be longer than a GSR trans after the LS FD swap or no?!

Thanks

here is a gear calculator that will allow you to see differances between the 2 before you start gettin your hands dirty. http://autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi

dont try to put the ls ring gear in there without swaping the pinion gear (at the bottom of the countershaft) the teeth on the 2 pinion gears have differant spacing. ( at the bottom of the countershaft)

He would be replacing the entire countershaft then right?

yes because the ls countershaft has the same amount of teeth as the b16/gsr countershafts but the teeth profiles are different.

Thank you DaveF. I knew there was a calculator somewhere! But yes I forgot to say I was going to swap the pinion gear as well. I was just more focused on what the results would be!
