Default heat shield for aftermarket headers?

Hi, I was wondering if there are any heat shields available to purchase for aftermarket headers? specifically DC 4-2-1 headers... cause i think the engine bay is hella hotter than stock and i want the header to last so dont wanna wrap it...

A heat shield is going to keep you from burning you hand on the header, not make the engine bay cooler. Where else would the heat be able to go?

Actually, I think that is the purpose of a heat shield - to absorb and deflect the heat back down.

But to answer your question, most headers out there are bigger than stock and therefore, the stock heatshield simply wont fit. Plus, aftermarket headers dont have any mounting points for the heatshield.

What might work, although it'll be a little ghetto, is to use a JDM ITR heatshield since those are larger than stock. You can then use wire to hold the shield onto your header.

I've never tried this, I'm just speculating that it could be done.

Down onto what? Seems like it would just go back down to the header and engine and would eventually come out the sides around the shield...might keep your hood cooler

couldn't you just use those wraps that wrap around the header?

heat shields are useless imo, but headerwrap or jethot coating has its benefits.

My header has no heat wrap and it's definately hot under the hood. I think the best answer is a vented hood. It's not the cleanest looking way to solve it but I think it's the best solution.

what about this point of view...

Heat is the enemy of horsepower so by getting rid of the heat shield your allowing heat to dissapate away from the engine better.. So it may be hotter under the hood but at the same time its getting rid of the heat so wouldnt it be more efficient?

anyone else think this

so instead of keeping the exhaust hot, youd rather have the heat radiate towards your upper rad hose and rad?

if you are so worried about the "heat" that everyone else has found a way to deal with and do not want to use header wrap, why not just take the hood off????

I dont think that would be an issue while your driving and since many people run headers without heat shields i highly doubt much heat energy get absorbed into the coolant water from the header

So pretty much, you think it's a better idea for all that heat to pour out of the exhaust,
and not be contained inside of it, hmm grand thinking I guess..

well... all i know is that a hotter engine bay = less dense air = less power... and from my understanding, a header wrap would keep the hot air in the the pipes and allow it to flow faster but it might get too hot and crack. that's why i was thinking a heat shield would be best... but it seems likes many other cars are running aftermarket headers without heat shields and with no problem... so i guess ill just deal with it
