Default Can you bump a bike's timing?

Seems like for the added small cost of premium fuel why not bump timing a bit to wring these bikes out a little more, I've got an 02 f4i.

Sure, if your bike is equipped with the right ignition parts

Any idea what kind of gains to expect from such mods?

nothing but a bike that has very peaky power and is hard to start.

The manufaturer gives a specified timing setting for a reason. The only time you should adjust it away from that setting is if you are tuning the bike and you are using a Dyno to get the best timing setting possible for that particular tune. Otherwise, you are shooting at a target in the dark.

Also, why bother dude. Your F2 gets what, 40-45mpg? I don't think you should be too worried about it. The miniscule improvements that you would see are not worth the hassle. By miniscule, I mean that you MIGHT see about .25-.5mpg better........or even worse than where you started.

same goes for a F4i, or any bike for that matter

BTW, the only way that you will be able to adjust timing properly on your pike is with a Power Commander or something similar. Your bike uses an electronic pickup.

from the factory these things are already so well tuned being what they are that i dont think at home you could really make any improvement that wouldnt have an opposite reaction that would probably be worse than what the possible gain would be.
