ITR LSD Differential TRASHED. Opinions Wanted:
Like the title says my stock LSD ITR differential has gone to hell. I am looking for options on what to do to replace it, and Ive got some ideas but I wanted some information from experience form various ITR owners and road racers.
Here are my options as of right now, so if you see something missing please tell me:
Stock ITR LSD Diff: $800 or so new
Quaife Torque Biasing Unit: $850+ or so
ATS Carbon Clutch Type LSD: $1,000 or so
I have purposely left KAAZ off the list because of their crappy record here locally in Atlanta. 2 pals of mine had theirs go out with very little mileage and no abuse whatsoever.
I am of course on a budget, but if I can get a truly superior unit for a hundred or 2 hundred more bucks then I'll just be down w/o a car for longer time in order to get it right the first time.
Does anyone have personal experiences with any of the above mentioned units (besides the obvious stock LSD in the ITR
)?
I have spoken to Yasu Fukui and he assures me that the ATS unit will be the baddest unit on the track but it will be noisy on the street. I care not about the noise, but I'm also weary of clutch-type LSD units. I know that like any clutch, they will eventually wear out and then I'm out another lump of monry to have it rebuilt or worse, REPLACED.
I also hear various things about the Quaife, I hear it's better than the stock unit, then I hear it's worse? What gives? I also *hear* it has a lifetime warrnty too? If so then this will be a huge plus for me.
I'm currently at a supreme low with my car because I have not gotten to enjoy it for more tha 2 weeks at a time without something unfortunate happening to it. I love the car, but if these sort of things keep happening then I'll have to bow out and sell the car.
I guess I won't be able to afford to "pay to play" because of my meager salary at the shop I work at.
Lastly I'll say thanks in advance.

search user "earl". Quaiffe GB for like $760. Awesome deal. Everybody I know w/ a Quaiffe loves it and I believe it has a lifetime warranty. I will be using the KAAZ unit in a week. Went w/ it becuase I saved about $400 (my pricing) and they are 1 mile from my pad so they installed it for me. I`ll let you know how that goes...

quaf is best but i'm dying to know how you "trashed" a stock unit........?
I'll vote for ATS 1.5 way: that thing is ****** amazing if you plan to do any tracking of the car.....
As far as how to break the stock lsd: just bonce the front wheels about 1 inch off the ground and it'll let go...

.....sorry, I should've been more clear:
BOTH front wheels have to jump off the ground about 1" or more at the same time... Easiest way to do this is in a straight line (aka DRAG)... Stock itr lsd WILL break from this type of abuse.
DISCLAIMER: Neither myself, nor honda-tech is responsible if you choose to test this out and **** your **** up, however.

Sounds like Quiafe for lifetime warranty and a unit that is better then stock or ATS if you want the best (Dollars suck though). I'd use a KaaZ (I don't think either individual I believe you are talking about broke them in properly).
(aka DRAG)oh... nevermind...

Okay, so who here has gone from the ITR diff to the Quaife or vice versa?
How were the differences and when were they most notable?
And BlackR:
I'm sure the ATS is bad-*** on the track, but you and I both know that track-dedicated parts aren't always the optimal choice for the street. Yasu days that the diff is good for 10-12 races or about 2 years on the street.
He does not drive his daily on the street, so i'm wondering where that info is taken from. I know that user Rodney has used the ATS unit in his car and loved it, but I don't know if that was a track-dedicated car or not either.
Oh, and I could get the O.E unit for $704.00 now rather than $800 or so.
I know the O.E works well and lasts a long time (mine had like 60K on it) so I *might* do it.
Well anyone have more info?

I'm sorry to **** some of you off but I wonder sometimes if the name alone doesn't spur on the hoopla or suggestions.
ATS is a totally bad-*** company and their U.S distributor is run by one of my favorite human beings - Yasu Fukui - but I wonder about their LSD for every day use.
I have their 4.929 FD and I love it. I hope it isn't broken when I pull the tranny, and if it isn't then ATS still holds a high mark in my book.
I'd like to hear from actual users of the various diffs mentioned. Of course the ATS unit is probably bad-*** on the racetrack, but how often am I there?
I drive 90% on the street and 10% on the track, and really that's just auto-X for now. Breaking **** has kind of scared me away from any track events any time soon because unlike 90% of this ITR board, I truly cannot afford to keep breaking ****.
Please don't take this as a slap. I really appreciate all the comments and all, but the ones suggesting the ATS have you guys driven or ridden in a such-equipped car?
I know that Rodney and another H-T member have driven the ATS-equipped cars, but I canbnot ever recall seeing if they were daily driven cars or how they faired longevity wise.
Right now I'm leaning towards Quaife just because i confirmed the lifetime warranty deal.
BUT:
If the Quaife is truly inferior to the stock unit then I will NOT but the Quaife. I could have sworn I'd seen comparisons between Quaife and O.,E ITR diffs here somewhere. Doesn't the Quaife have more biasing % wise than the stock, pr is this just some stupid rumor?
And Apex-i ITR:
Why would you still suggest Kaaz? I could have sworn that i know that at least one of the aforementioned guys had the Kaaz broken in correctly - 30 minutes solid of doing low=speed figure 8 turns, right?
..And once the Kaaz broke they got no support whatsoever - NONE.

I agree 176%.
-Dave, who wonders if this applies to SoCal.. it's all a name, SoCal sucks
I`m tellin` ya that Hagar owns Roth nowadays. You`ll see. Roth is like a dinosaur. Just make sure you have some cabo wabo tequila
I just got a good price on a Quaife because of my shop:
EDITED+shipping.
That is swaying me hard-core.
All that I'm wating for now is some testiminials from ITR LSD users who went Quaife.
I'm sure that on the track the ATS would be sweet, and I would love to swing some more business Yasu's way because he is truly an awesome guy, but nearly $300 cheaper and a lifetime warranty is hard to top.
$300 can almost buy me a new CompTech 6.75lb flywheel
