89 civic - dashpot soleonid diagram confusion???
I have a 1.6L SI 89 model.
I downloaded the 88-90 Honda Civic manual and it shows the civic sohc with cata as having a dashpot soleniod control valve but my car does not have one.
My emission control diagram under the hood does not refer to this component so I know that it was not removed. BTW my car is a California model if that makes a difference.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks Ken

part of your confusion comes from the fact that the manual you have is for a European car - the USDM 88 CRX Si used a dashpot solenoid control valve on the firewall like what is in that manual - the purpose of this solenoid was to boost the idle slightly when the engine was cold by applying vacuum to the dashpot which opened the throttle plate a small amount, letting more air into the engine - in 89-91, the USDM CRX/Civic Si did not have the dashpot solenoid control but instead had a Fast Idle Control Valve on the back of the intake manifold (wasn't there on the 88) which performed basically the same function but instead of opening the throttle plate, it allowed air directly into the manifold thru the valve
the 88 dashpot looks like this - has a vacuum line from the front of the manifold and a second vacuum nipple where the line ran to the solenoid

the 89-91 dashpot looks like this - only one vacuum line from the front of the manifold

Thanks so much for the valuable info jlicrx,
Any idea where I can downloan the correct manual?
Thanks again
