A friend of mine just picked up an '02 Civic 4dr and the key gets stuck in the ignition once the car is turned off. They only way to remove it is to unplug the battery. Anyone have any idea what can be wrong is there some sensor that can be replaced? Thanks.

 

It sounds like there is an immobilizer issue. I would talk with the dealership, and see why that is. Maybe they can re-program the key for you.

 

I was hoping to avoid the dealer but I might go and pick up another key and see if that will help.

 

Make sure the shifter is in P, maybe its not clicked in or try turing the steering wheel.

if it's a auto that could be it. I had a piece when I was younger and you had to slam it in park to get the key out. But if it's a stick I would try the new key and if that don't work go to the dealer.
