Bearings bad in AC compressor/ need to reroute belt?
i have no familiarity with ac compressor or anything related to it. i do know the belt also runs the alternator. i have a couple questions....
can i reroute the belt to just forget the AC so that my car runs without? and what are the disadvantages of this?
also if this belt breaks will my car a. be damaged or b. just stop running
okay thank you. i know this forum to be real knowledgeable so i'd appreciate your help here. thanks

it is sitting in my parking lot and when i start it up i hear the loud noise and sounds horrible so i'm nervous about even driving it down the street to get it fixed. it seems as though i hear if the belt goes bad nothing will be hurt beyond repair my car will just stop running.
Options:
1. Take a bus to autozone, return with new belt.
2. Have friend drive you to autozone, return with new belt
3. Overnight belt from autozone.
4. Walk to Autozone, return with belt.
If the belt snaps, the car stops running because the alternator shuts down, and now you have to tow it too. (not to mention any damage you incur from the belt flying loose, or if the clutch siezes and the frozen belt stops the crank from rotating).

its odd because half of the places i call say its impossible to reroute the belt around the AC compressor on a Honda...? just something to stop the driver from doing this? calling about 10 places to ask just out of curiousity 5 or 6 of them said no way its not even possible.
quoting from another honda website: New vehicles have a single serpentine belt that actually complicates things. The single serpentine belt turns the air conditioning compressor, water pump, alternator, and power steering pump. You can not operate your vehicle without these other components. When you have a bad air conditioning compressor you can no longer just take the belt off. You must keep the noisy compressor in place, .

never heard of that I would have to say
. Pretty sure like Boilermaker1 said you can just get a belt for one without the ac....never heard of any car not running cause the belt doesn't go around the ac I would have to say that a crock. Plus you can't always beleive what auto part stores tell you. Some guys make commision so I'm sure they want you to spend the $400 on a new compressor. But if you want buy one for $75 from a junkyard

Sure ok, maybe... but look under YOUR hood..... D17s arent serpentine. There's 3 belts. One for the timing belt/H2O pump, another for the alternator and AC, and a third for the power steering. They sold the DX model without air conditioning. The non-AC belt is available.
