recently my motor has been making a puttering noise at idle. car drives fine and noise goes away while you are driving, but comes back when you stop or at idle. the motor came out of a recked prelude that been sitting for over a year. since i have bought it, i replaced the timing belt and waterpump. i changed out the spark plugs thinking it would solved the problem, but it still there. i believe it starting to smoke also. anything i could change and replace to fix the problem?

Double check your timing and also check the valve lash (valve adjustment).

 

i also pull out each spark plug wire 1 by 1 and 4th cylinder didnt seem to change tone as 1, 3, 4.

 

Well then see if you have spark in number 4. Hold the plug close to the cylinder and crank it to see if the spark jumps across or not.

 

i got shocked, does that count?

Haha, yes you have spark

 

You mentioned smoke; can you describe it more? Blue, black or white? Does it only smoke at idle?

 

check your egr

not sure, it might be blue haven't been able to see it.

as for egr, it is currently blocked off.

 

The puttering sound could be caused by an exhaust leak. hard to tell without hearing it though. Maybe record a sound clip so we can hear it.
