Hi, new here, just lookin for some help/guidance

Racing on a local quarter mile asphalt track, rules state car is to remain stock. Was racin a infinity g20, but some bad luck left that car in half

everyones a cheater, so im just doin the little things to try and have fun.

the rundown

1999 Accord LX

Engine: F23A1 2.3 vtec automatic

what im lookin for

these guys are running with CRX's, Saturns, Preludes, MX-6's, and integras, so my car is pretty much a tank.

My ideas so far:

Wheel spacers for the rear

Camber kit for right front

Spring rubbers for right side

Im looking for any additional ideas to help the handling? Looking for ideas, anyone selling any parts that could help, or anyone that knows where I can find any of these parts. I have already lowered the car a little bit, after the below pictures.

Won't really happen

Your problem is you have ~140 hp when the car was new in a car that weighs easily 600 lbs more (probably more than that even)

- tire pressures
- vtec controllers won't really help that much
- lighter wheels

You definitely want a front strut bar, it really improved my handling.

You can also swap the rear sway bar off of an Acura TL type S which should improve things as well, and not be as costly as an aftermarket unit.

I am also selling some lightweight 17" wheels with tires, improving your contact patch and lowering wheel and tire weight (unsprung weight) is a good way to gain an advantage.

 

The car actually scaled at about 700 pounds lighter than original, everything is gutted, including the door panes, hood, trunk, interior, dash, A/C condenser and all extra metal in the car.

I know theres not much engine wise to do, but I just need to find a setup as Im burnin tires like crazy.

Accordselux, do you have any suggestions for finding the right front strut bar?

as far as ther rear, im sponsored by a junkyard, so Ill definately run out there later today and look for a TL type S

 

To help with the Camber, you can buy Adjustable Ball joints
from SPC.
Then to up the rev Limiter u can get an LX Civic ECU and chip it.
Also, switching to manual will help ...

 

For a good front strut bar, you want as many solid pieces as possible. If you go on ebay you see those $15 things that are adjustable with a lot of bolts and stuff, and basically it's cheap tubing, bolts, and some universal mounts. I had one when I started out (oh jesus, is that really 7 years ago?) and it just fell apart, and if you're putting a lot of stress on it like you are at a track, you want something a bit stronger.

The next step up would be something like these NRG strut bars:

You can see the construction has a lot less adjustable bits and the box-type bar is a lot stronger.

And in terms of camber adjusters, performance brakes and parts, etc. TASAuto has the most complete list in one place. You may be able to find things cheaper but they have a lot of the stuff you'd want right there to look at:

And if you notice, a high performance front strut/rear sway kit costs over $300 bucks, but if you use the Acura TL-S sway with endlinks (new) it will cost you $80 and a good front strut bar will cost you $75- a hell of a lot cheaper if you sacrifice the adjustability.

 

Excuse the ignorance, Im new to the Honda game. but specifically what type of civic ECU do I need to get to swapped out? Assuming it'd have to come off of a vtec civic?

Also, has anyone here used wheel spacers in a performance scenario?

Its 150hp lol

 

Oh it has VTEC? Hmmm...I will go out on a limb and say either a
P28...or a P72??? I do not know exactly.....I think P28 is the one u neeed....

 

when my friends did dirt track racing there was a gsr teg that dominated everybody... theres almost no way you will keep up with one of those but i bet its a lot of fun

we have that around here as well, do you have to run a windshiled though? maybe it is different for asphalt.

id make your own strut bars. do you really need the side mirrors? our sprint car doesnt use mirrors, lol.

on the dirt track around here, there are a lot of the 3rd gen preludes with the B20's in them.

 

For asphalt windows are optional.

the mirrors have since been removed, and replaced with one interior mirror.

 

Anyone know for sure which ECU I should use? and maybe where to find a good chipped one?

 

maybe u should do a 5speed swap. that should help u out with a little bit of speed.

 

SPC is where you should be looking for camber/toe adjustments....checkout http://Importautoperformance.com for the lowest prices on SPC components.

SPC is widely used in most of the Honda Challenge cars....so its proven.

Also IMO Preludes and MX-6's are also tanks.
