I got a simple question to ask, i got a set of new vitara piston and i'm going to use them in a y8 block with scat rods, and i was wondering what pistn rings do i use... I've Searched and nothing, please help out, because i want to start to boost asap. also i head of piston slap using vitara pistons, can anybody elaborate a little bit out it. Please Help a fellow H.T. User out .....
the slap is dependant on the piston to wall clearance. we just did one, set it at .0035 clearance sounds stock. our pistons though came with rings.
I think FJT would probably be able to get you just the rings, but they come with the kits. The piston slap is from a combo of running worn 75mm bores with the pistons that are much smaller than the 74.9965" they should be for a ideal fit. They're more like 74.9935-45. In a worn stock bore, thats like tossing a hot-dog down a bowling alley as far as a Honda motor is concerned.
You can get the 75.5mm kits and have your sleeved honed to match them. I'd go with .0035"-.0045", depending on how much power you intend to run.
