Default how to check codes for 96 accord

as the title says. i have a check engine light and i need to see what it's throwing. besides using a obd 2 code reader/scanner is there a ghetto paperclip way of doing it like on civics and integras? thanks.

Yes it's done the same way as on the Civic's & Teg's. I have a 96 and I've done it a few times myself. There is a blue 2pin/wire connector attached under your glove box. That is the one that you short to do the SCS self diagnostics.

This is the procedure I used for my 96 Accord.


Here is the blue plastic retainer that is connected to the glove box frame. The connector is sitting inside this plastic retainer/bracket.


This is the two pin connector removed from the retainer. Showing the two female pins where you are to stick the ends of the paper clip or wire.

Thank you very much. I tested it, it's throwing code 74. Misfire. I'll check this out and see why.

Ether look them up in a Helms manual or you could try to Google them.....

Google = "OBD1 code **"


If you don't have a manual you could try searching for the "Accord 1994 CD7 CD9 USDM JDM Service Manual"

okay i tried to use the paperclip method on my 95 accord and it wouldnt work for me. i might have gotten one quick blink but i dont think so i tried it 100 times and i think it flashed really quick one time but i dont think it worked. and my check engine light is really dim and it wouldnt give me any codes what could cause this?? and my check engine light was really dim before i tried this it doesnt go off when i turn on the ignition it stays on but its dim and it wouldnt give me codes. please help
