Here's an installation on an Integra to show you what's involved.

Here is the kit for the Honda.. Its made by rostra.. A friend of mine used to work at a speedo shop and this is the brand they always installed.

No affiliation with the company selling the above kit.. that just happens to be where I'm going to buy mine from once I verify that the DX and HX use the same throttle adapter.

I have never heard of a recall to service bulletin on the cruise control.
I have the factory cruise control ('98 EX coupe) and have NEVER ad any issue in the least with it.

I have a vacuum actuated aftermarket cruise control on my 92 VX.
My cruise control works fine. If you decide to buy one however, you will need to install a separate vacuum canister to store engine vacuum. The tiny 1.5L engine on my VX does not have adequate vacuum at mid throttle so it slows down uphill without stored vacuum. I added the vacuum canister myself. Easy to do and costs only $15.
Motorcycle engines have the same problem with climbing hills with cruise control because of the small displacement on some models - 750 cc engines for example.
Try to find a vacuum actuated cruise control, they are more reasonably priced and do the job just as well. Installation isn't easy but it's definitely worth it.

Installation error then. It has nothing to do with it being OEM.

I have the exact same issue. I would like to add cruise control to my 92 civic DX, I bought the car because it only had 90k original miles... and thought I could live without it. Well I do drive long distances and it does get annoying..
About how much do the kits run, and how much is installation typically? And is it really unsafe? I am definatley watching this thread.

theres nothing unsafe about it, as long as the installer does all of the throttle linkage connections right. i dont remember how much the unit sells for, but we used to get about $100 for labor. the good thing about the electric rostra is the fact that you dont have to use a clutch switch on a manual car. it has a tach wire you hook up and kills the cruise as soon as tach starts to rise abruptly. does it so quick you dont even notice.
From what I read from Rostra.. I need the throttle plate to hook up the cable from the cruise.. It doesn't come with the adapter I need for my HX (at least thats what it looks like and they make an adpater for the 1.6L civic and show it needs the plate).
I like the RF module becuase I can put it where the factory cruise would normally go.. I didn't see any way to install the stalk to my HX. If you know of a pic that shows how you use the Stalk method with a civic, please post the link as that would be cheaper than the RF module and I don't want the box with the buttons..

ive put on hundreds and never used a throttle plate. i used the hardeware that comes with it. but its your money. if they make a bolt on piece for easy install then by all means buy it. as far as the stalk you just drill a hole in the side of the steering column cover and mount it. it protrudes into the inside of the plastic maybe a 1/4". it can be mounted below your turn signal stalk and out of the way of the tilt steering lever with no problems. but ive done this numerous times and its a very cookie cutter install when i do them.
i have a vaccum actuated aftermarket cruise on my 96 CX, it came with the car when i bought it, i dont know what brand it it, but it works fine, no problems except it doesnt have a cluth switch, so i usually have to turn it off before downshifting to climb a steep hill, damn i hate my long *** tranny!

could I in theory take the cruise control off of my 92 lx, and put it on my 92 dx?.....I have 2 cars and one of them is old. I probably wouldnt do this(would want cruise control in both cars) but I assume its possible right?
