Default Rear spring problem

Issue is on 05 civic HX. Was my son's car and he had the car lowered with Ground Control adjustable coilovers and Eibach springs. Looks like the original struts.

The passenger side rear spring is loose and makes a loud thump anytime I hit a bump. I lifted the car I can raise and lower the spring by hand. There is a rubber piece (looks like a doughnut about four inches in diameter) at the top of the spring that looks like an isolator of some type. The rubber piece is really bad and is flattened toward the outside of the car and the spring no longer rests against it.

I'm wondering what the heck is up. Could there be a piece missing or was it maybe put together incorrectly?

I would appreciate any help or drawings available.
I can provide pictures if needed.

It sounds as if the upper perch wasn't properly pieced together, but I would definitely post up some pictures to show the issues at hand. You may be able to salvage the setup, without spending too much. I would highly recommend some aftermarket struts, though. They'll easily make the ride more comfortable.
