Buying a second hand CR-V - What questions should I ask??
hi!
I'm hoping to buy a second hand CR-V. It will be in the range 1996 to 1998.
What questions should I ask about the jeep? is there anything specific that mechanically goes wrong with them?
Also, anyone know what colour this jeep is? http://images.carzone.ie/image...6.jpg
I really like it, but it looks a bit like pink. Although I'm hoping thats just the camera?

What Jeep are you talking about?
I understand that the B20s are known to burn exhaust valves on occasion, so valve lash adjustments are necessary...ask if those were done. Of course all fluids should be changed like any other car so make sure they did all that & all the other basic maintenance. I don't know of any other major mechanical issues....

I'm not sure what a B20 is. It's just a 1996 CR-V. Don't really know anything more than that.
I don't plan on going offroad with it
I'll find out what the "service" that they gave it includes. I'll mention the valve lash adjustment to them and see what the garage says.
I pretty much spent a while googling for known issues on the CR-V at around my year. But I couldn't find much. Seems quite reliable.

Sorry, B20 is the engine. Honda engines have letters to denote the series, like B, D, H, K, etc. and the number following the letter is the displacement. So the B20 is a 2.0-liter B-series. That's what all the 1st gen CRVs have, and the later years (99-00 I think?) have a different version that has about 20 more hp.
Yeah, it won't be very amazing off-road
Good ground clearance though.

It's a 2.0L engine, so a B20.. sounds nice. Good marketing buzz off it!
Sure it is.
I just can't wait to lob a caravan on her and then go through a few forests!
The main reason for getting it, is the height and room. I'm quite tall, so I'm hoping it will be more comfortable than the saloon that I'm currently in. I can change indicators with my knee it's that cramped!
Thanks for the info man, I appreciate it!
Edit: Oh and i forgot. The jeep I was talking about, was the one in the photo.

No problem
I hope it works out for you...I am only 5'10" and the seat barely goes back far enough for me
Tons of room in the back though!

thewizord seems to be from the UK when he refers to JEEP's he refers to a SUV in general. Here in the states wejust to reffer to a JEEP for JEEP brand vehicles.
PS Mateis the CRV 4WD?

Ah, OK that makes more sense
Jeep to us Americans is literally a Jeep: seven bar grill, removable doors, serious off-road capability, etc... Thanks for clarifying

Sorry for the confusion! </TD></TR></TABLE>
Haha, no problem, I'm sure we have all kinds of crazy traditions here that make no sense to anyone else in the world.

make sure that the rear end fluid is changed with honda's dual pump fluid! you need to do that about every 20k miles or so
and +1 on the burnt valves
and the sway bar end links are usually noisy
