Advice needed for pistion, rods, and crankshaft for my 90' DA9
Ok so first off I want to say im not a mechanic or tech im still learning but i've come a long way so far and I want to give props to this site and its members for all of the useful info. 90% of everything i've learned has come from forums!!
With this said PLEASE ONLY RESPOND IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!! I NEED USEFUL ADVICE ON WHAT YOU KNOW NOT WHAT YOU THINK YOU KNOW!!
I have a 90' DA9 b18a1 that was recently stolen and was abused by some *******.
I finally got the car back and after a weeks worth of driving realized one of the rod bearings was busted! At first I thought it was a warped valve but after taking it to 3 experienced mechanics they all said right off the bat it was a rod bearing.
After talking to a tech at a speed shop in Fremont CA he said I could keep my engine. I was investigating into swapping out the B18 for a B16, but after the quote I realized it would be more money than I could afford. The guy basically said he could replace the rod and do the necessary work so I could still keep my B18a1.
Now I have had plans since day 1 to make my DA a project car...and yes I do want to boost it EVENTUALLY down the line. At the same time I also want to go the LS/VTEC route with either a GSR or Type R head. I've heard mixed things about this from many ppl but this guy seems confident about it and I trust this guy, ive seen a few of his personal projects and there pretty [freak]ing good.
What he mentioned was since he will be replacing the rod, he could give me a set up strong enough to safely run higher than 8psi boost. I don't know everything required for this but I know that usually means forged rods and pistions (valves, springs and a resleave eventually). I have also heard stock LS's do pretty damn good with boost. Another thing he mentioned and I was considering was swapping out the stock pistions and putting flat GSR or Type R pistions to raise the compression to...what...10:4:1 or is it 10:6:1 <--- not really sure hence why im still a nube!!
PLEASE for ppl who have either done this or know B series engines like the back of there hand I am desperate for advice from your experience. I am a broke ****** [freak]er but addicted to improving and modding my car. I want to stay emissions legal b/c I live in CA and drive my car everyday for my job but want to make her as much as possible a high performance street car. Sorry for the long *** post.
