Default Need help with seats

Alright, first of all, I have leather seats. As some of you know, and some of you know very well, during turns, leather seats don't hold the driver/rider as well as cloth seats. My question is, what "racing" seat should i get? I'm on a pretty tight budget ($700-$800 for both front seats, rails, and shipping) and I also need the seat to be big enough for me to sit in. The only seat that I found that I can possibly fit in is Corbeau's Forza II. All of the other Corbeaus and Sparcos that I looked at were for smaller people, size 32-36 waist size, and I need something around 40-44. Thanks in advance.

If this is a street car that you only occasionally track, there's a trick (well, its not really a trick). Get a strip (1' x n') of the throw rug non-slip padding (Teebaud??) or the stuff that you put in a cupboard (it looks like woven rubber). Place a section in the bottom of the seat and hang a section over your back when you sit down. It really works - no bullshit. I used it in my CL-S and was shocked at how well it works holding you in place. It will save you $695 to $795 and after driving roughly the last year and a half with race seats in my daily driver - "roughly" is the only word that comes to mind. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Don't get me wrong, you can make a race seat quasi-comfortable but it ain't really that comfortable as far as I am concerned.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, this is indeed for a daily driver and occational track racer, but I'm going to keep the stock seats for long trips or whatever.

hehehe, I'll have to try that ^_^ My bro has about 20"x20" sheets of that stuff, so it'll be nothing out of my pocket =D

Adam's trick works really well. If you have to keep the leather, go with it - it works.

I bought a Corbeau for a track seat. It really sucks as a daily driver seat. Non adjustable just does not cut it. I drove 3 hours to Thunder Hill in the race car with the Corbeau seat, once. That was a pain literally. Getting in and out the seat was another PITA. May I suggest one of the other adjustable seats that offer good lateral support. The only thing is the price for 2 seats is a bit high. When I autocrossed I heard of some people using a single lap belt that fit around the whole seat to hold you in the seat.

a 'torso belt'....

not sure how that would feel during an impact... but may be a option for auto-x.

I used to have the same problem autocrossing with my leather seats (I would end up driving from the passenger seat) so I got the Schroth 4pt harness and it holds me in just fine.

As many people on this board will tell you, if you use the harness on the street or track you should have some rollover protection.

I am looking for a seat for myself for autocrossing and lapping days.
I am looking at the Sparco Evo2. Anyone here have that seat or know of some with it?

I am looking for some input.
Here in OH there are no Sparco dealers so I am unable to get a feel for the seat.
I rarely adjust my seat so be no adjustable is no a big thing to me, plus being tall and in civic sucks anyway.
btw i am 6'6'...

The array of larger seats I have found (though I have not looked hard as I have no $$ right now) is somewhat limited.

Sparco Evo2
Corbeau ForzaII
OMP Big

Really? I got a Corbeau Forza in January and daily drove the car until June and had no problem with it. I guess it also depends on your spring rates/tolerance for lack of padding. I had several 3-4 hour drives during that time, and one 4-5 hour drive.

I guess I should give the bigger picture, I am an old man at 35, two kids and two other cars to choose for daily driving.

I tried most of Sparco's lineup and the Evo line fits me the best, far better then the speed, rev and torino (wasn't even considering the torino).

I have a Sparco Pro 2000, it is wide enough for healthy (not corpulent) large guys, and too big for skinny guys. I am 5'10" 185# and I have a little room to move in it. It was tight on me when I was 220# a year ago. It would have cost too much though if I didn't get it used. Plus the front thigh bolster (?) is way to small. If they have a big seat, I would like to get a Momo next time.

BTW Slider rails+sunroof+helmet=uncomfortable seating position.
Edit: Just wanted to add, after a year of daily driving with a race bucket, even the most supportive stock seat feels like a damn lazy boy.

I have an Evo 2 & I like it. I like a wider seat for track events. I have these lil pads that I add to keep me where I want w/ comfort. Plus, I can add pad or take it away as I like.

My friend (Jeffs on this board) tried it out & he liked it a lot. He is 6' 5" give or take a couple of inches.
