Odometer accuracy 02-06 Honda + Acura and 07 Fit
My wife noticed on a trip across Canada that her 07 Fit's odometer was reading over 2% high compared to the mileage markers beside the road. Honda has been in court over this issue but I can't find a discussion on this forum.
Last year Honda lost a class action lawsuit in the US that alleged damages related to accelerated depreciation and loss of warranty coverage due to inaccurate odometers: details at http://www.hondaodometerclassaction.com/. Vehicles included in the settlement were model year 02 through 06 Honda and Acura and the 07 Fit, purchased between April 13 2002 and November 7, 2006. Residents of British Columbia, where we live, may want to sign up in the class action presently underway at http://www.poynerbaxter.com/Honda%20odometer.htm .

Differences of less than 5 percent are normal for any car and can arise from a variety of sources. Just for example, the difference in outer diameter and accuracy between a set of brand new tires and a set that is worn and ready for replacement is about 2 percent. And there's no way any car in the world can change its own odometer to be accurate throughout that range.

Re: Odometer accuracy 02-06 Honda + Acura and 07 Fit (nsxtasy)
Three points in reply:
1) It may be 2% on an old Mini, but not on any Honda. Even with the small tires on a Fit, the difference in diameter between a new tire and a fully worn out one is closer to 1.3%. For cars with larger diameter tires the difference would be less.
2) As the tires wear, they will decrease in radius and the odometer error will increase. So my wife can look forward to an error of somewhere between 3% and 4% as the tires wear. At 60,000 km/mi indicated, the car will have closer to an actual 58,000.
3) I don't drive a Honda. As near as I can tell, my car's odometer is accurate. Honda could have done that too but they didn't.

Absolutely NOT true. (I'm guessing you're not very good at math.)
Here is the percent difference in the tire diameter due to the 8/32" difference in tread depth (16/32" difference in diameter) between a new tire with 10/32" full tread depth, and one with 2/32" tread depth needing replacement, for each of the three tire sizes with which the 2007 Honda Fit came from the factory:
175/65-14 2.2 percent (22.96" vs 22.46")
195/55-15 2.1 percent (23.44" vs 22.94")
205/45-16 2.2 percent (23.26" vs 22.76")
