nope, its a '90 cx hatch. Must have different models in Canada. Its got the 92(?)hp 1.5L engine with the 5 speed. Its got a few miles on the engine and i'm trying to figure out if i could get more $ for it if i dropped in a lower km zc engine. Anyone try one with that stock computer (you call them the dx that year i think)
thanks for the replies

yep we dropped one in my boys dx.running pretty well and he is completing his greddy turbo install as we speak.he is a few intercooler pipes away from ppppppsssssssssstttttttttt!!!!!!!!!
zc's are a waste. better to sell it stock, more people will be interested because they can pick the motor they want to put in. good luck

THey are not a waste, they run much better than the 1.5 or 1.6 HF DX or SI engine. Just think 130 HP instead of the HF 72 hpo the DX 92 or the Si 106hp. SO what if it doesn't have the 160hp of the B16, or the 200 of the B18C it doesn't need 350-450 dollar custom mounts. and can be done for real cheap. less than 1/2 of the B16 swap. And it makes a great engine for a commuter car that isn't raced. That is speaking from experience. The B16 runs but you have to rev the hell out of it for that to happen, and the ZC runs great driven normally. I have one and love it. I built my entire car, engine trans, axels GSR rims and tires DX HB Chassis, drop springs and struts, new seats and paint job. for $2,500. Thats about what a new gen B16 is going for. and Twice what a B16a1 swap alone will set you back before you count the bits and pieces you need to make that work. So it IS a great low buck swap.

mine was never worth the money. sssslllloooowwwwwww. not worth putting a single dime into it. save the money and buy a B series. this argument doesn't need to happen again. how many road racers or drag racers use D series? how many people have to waste their money on ZC's before buying a real motor? sorry to offend those who have this motor and are desperately trying to get a B16. i know money is tight. but make it happen. i did.

I dont think he wants to sell his car. And ZC's are not a waste. I think it's been said a million times, "best bang for the buck." I am in the process of turbo'ing mine as we speak and keeping the total cost of it at around $300 or so. It will put out as much as a b16 for a fraction of the price.

Its all about budget. You spend 3,000 on your B16. And I will get a ZC, set up my suspension, upgrade my brakes and take care of any other issues with the car. Then we will see whose car is more capable on either a road course or at an auto-x.
just adding to the argument.......i have a d16z6 running all obd-1 stuff. cheap intake, home-made cat back, and a good clutch in my crx w/17's. i have raced 1 crx with a b16 and more mods than i have, a 91 hatch with a b16 with much more mods than i have, a 89 hatch with zc and same mods i have + header. a turbo probe,........all of which i beat. i missed 3rd racing a 4.6L GT mustang and was still right next to him through 3rd. i fell back about a car from 10-70,mph racing an old 5.0, and barelly a car length 5-100mph racing a turbo eclipes....so pretty much.. screw wasting all the extra cash on a b series unles it is like a b18c5. mine holds its ground pretty well......and i have no reason to lie....
i heard that you can put some type of cams in a non-vtec engine and have something like vtec? is this true? has anyone ever heard of this? the person who told me this said that the cams are expensive but that you can still have vtec in an ls or zc engine. he said they wre calle dkiller cams or something like that.

I don't know the CA models, but I'm assuming that the existing motor has daul point fuel injection instead of multi-point like the ZC. If so... you'd have some wiring to do (I've never done it, or I'd try to give you an idea of what is involved).
As for the ECU, I'm also not sure that a dual point ECU will run a Multi point car. I'd guess no, but may work, just not very well. I'd recommend trying to get a 88-89 integra (Assuming CA is the same as US) or Si/Ex ECU.
The motor cost should be around $500 and your trans will work, but be slow.
The swap is great for the money. People love to ZC bash around here, but over all its a great drivable fun motor. I've had one for years. I also have a Civic with a Z6 and an A6 as well as a civic I recently sold with a 1.5. I can tell you first hand that the ZC is by far and above the best of all of those motors.

thanks fo rthe good post. the '90 cs here has the 92 hp multi point fi et al. I believe its the same as your dx. There's no rear wiper or cloth seats or any luxeries in the car.
teh stock compute redlines at 6800 i believe, so that would cut 400 rpms off the peak. Did you get the 137bhp zc version?
I was quoted 800$ cdn for the engine alone and 1100 for the whole package. bandits!!

Ripped off! I hope that price is for the B16. If it's for the ZC swap, I have some "magic" beans I'll sell you for $700 CDN, AND I'll throw in the ZC w/ tranny. Some people like to pay more, I bought a ZC for $550 shipped to my door. B16 is around $1300 complete w/ ECU and tranny, to my door. Prices subject to change , depending on what jacka$$ feels like trying to rip people off.

Secondly, the D motors are not all that bad. There's huge difference between a stock D15 and a ZC or a Sohc VTEC. I've got a Y8 and it runs 15.2 in the quarter. That's biting on the heels of a B18A, and it was WAY cheaper. Plus, you can say "Oh it's just an old sohc," or "it's non-vtec (for the ZC)" and watch the faces drop. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the B16, but it really only shines halfway down the track. I stick with my brother's B16 CRX all the way 'til third.
As for which big drag racers use the d: I got one word for ya: "Bisi"
OT...Had to say it...

The z6's are a very good motor. I have the ZC because nobody, i mean nobody, has one or heard of one in my town. My friend has a Z6 and it can handle so much more than my zc. I am running a 50 shot and he was running a 50 shot. We were side by side. Now he is running an 80 shot and blows the doors off mustang SVT cobras and camero's all day long. He runs an 8.6 in the 1/8 mile and i run a 9.2 in the 1/8. Also my other friend has a B16a with a 75 shot of nitrous and runs a 9.2 in the 1/8 as well.
Would have gladly spent $400 for an lsd tranny, I paid $250 from an importer for my regular ZC trans. Was local so no shipping of course. When I got my DOHC ZC
they didn't have any LSD equiped ones. Funny the Z6 has less hp than the DOHC and same red line. Maybe your DOHC is just tired. Given equal enging condition and work the DOHC is a little hotter than the SOHC one, V-tech or not.
