ok heres what happend the other day it was raining here really bad in jersey. and my ek hatch broke down on me and the main really was clicking it *** off. i got it towed to my job and i found that the ecu had water in it. i cleaned out the ecu wit electric cleaner and let it dry out over night. i plugged it in the next day. and now the car starts again and runs. but when i shut it off it stays running even with the key out the only way i can shut it off is to unplug the main relay.
can anyone please help me on this im stumped.

i was thinking that but why would it start and run normal if it shorted. but the ecu has nothing to do with the ign switch. i can take the key out and walk away and the car will still be running

 

i agree, its the ecu. let it air dry out longer and see if that helps. water and electronics are a toss up if they'll work right after.

 

you may just have to get a new ecu, how did the water get in are you window mouldings bad/missing? that happened on my 95 eg after i got it painted, it fried the ecu
