cant tell if its a rod knock im lost...
the noise is not constant, everyone tells me its not a rod knock sounds like its coming bewtween head and block to me under the vavle cover...i check everything i can with out taking motor apart , the timing is right no bogs nothing is loose , new clutch and tune up , i just swaped this motor first start up its been doing it ..idk wat else i can do before i take motor apart
its more likely not a rod knock if its not knocking constantly...when i had my rod knock it did it constantly... i would just check your spark plugs and everything like that... also when your rod knocks, you can not tell where its coming from because its loud....try posting a video of it..
Almost 100% sure you just need a valve lash adjustment. If it's coming from right under the VC then that's most likely it. A valve adjustment should be part of your major tune-up procedures.
idk its not like a tap like a loud idk like something is loose or not tight all the way, when u rev it up is when u hear it clear after 1500 or soo but its not too loud at idle u can bearley hear it , ill try to post a video

How are you going to do that? You have feeler gauges and a Helms manual?

its most likely rod knock, if you cant hear it at idle.. but hear it while driving..
does the sound change when the throttle % is changed? ie no noise at 0% throttle input.. then you can hear the sound around 30-50% throttle
also does it sound like as if you have a exhaust leak? but only sometimes.??
if so.. its most likely rod knock.. rod knock also means ur bearing is gone..
which means you`ll need to rebuild.. and get a new crank..
do not regrind a stock crank.. the surface are heat treated to make it hardned..

I think I know what noise you are talking about. My H22 makes a similar noise when it is cold and at low rpm. I am due for a valve adustment and I will see if that clears up my problem.

are you in a 5th gen? if yes check your timing belt tensioner. mine made a slappy-knocky noise when it failed at 30k. was worse around 1200rpm then faded away with an increase of rpm you could hear it at idle though.
be careful of the auto tensioner. it can cause a lot of damage if it fails.

I am confused by 6th gen... but if you have an h22a4 from usdm 97-01 I would really suggest inspecting your tensioner if it is an auto (hydraulic) type. the way you describe it to me sounds similar enough to make me suspicious. the auto tensioner is a common failure.

My noise sounds EXACTLY like the poster's noise with the exact same symptoms and everything... I also made a post there...
If you got the time, check it out and let me know your thoughts - (if you dont mind!)
The guy who made the post doesnt seem to use the website at all anymore, but at the time, he didnt know exactly what the noise was.
(just to add... Its been makin the noise since I got it like 20K miles ago... and hasnt really gotten any worse...) but it really does sound bad and only does it when hot and under light load...
