Default timing retard w/ turbo

I have a 2000 civic ex. My greddy kit is going to b here next week. I am gonna boost at 5.5 psi.

What do you guys have your timing set at?

Do you have an intercooler? Where are you located?

Man it really depends on your setup. But basically with what you have, when you but in your inline fuel pump (I'm assuming your using and fmu with the greddy blue box?) you should beable to run stock timing with no problems.

But if you are just using the stock pump, you may have to dial bacl a couple of degrees to avoid detonation......................................bu t I diden't hear any detonation you say.........................huh, thats what I said also.

So the best advice I can give anyone going with an fmuy setup it inline fuel pump fuel pump fuel pump. Most people here can tell you the same.

Best of luck, and let us know how it goes.

I would also like to know if I can run stock timing on my setup which is listed below and in the link in my sig.

I have been running 14deg since I got the turbo without problems, but just wanna know if I'm safe running it back to stock timing. I have 93 octane in my area and its all I get for her....

I have no problems with stock timing. I do not have my intercooler yet its on back order. Car runs fine no temp increase from what it was at before the turbo. It is only at 5psi.

I have colder plugs tho.
boost is nice

i run the btm at .25 for street, but jsut for additional safety. when i got it tuned, i was told that on my LS stock is fine for anything under 9.

Eric...im sure you can go back to stock...and pick up some real good power too. as long as your fuel is all good.

Anybody use the J&S Ultra Safeguard? I've really got my eyes set on one for when I go turbo but I haven't heard much about them in the past year, it seems like either nobody uses em anymore or people don't like em for some reason. What's up? They seem like a killer product that can add a big margin of safety when boosting

They are a good product and do add a good safety net. I think most people here don't use them because of the price. Christ you can damn near get a Hondata for the price of one of them. I would get one if I could afford it. It's on my list right behind: Clutch, stonger axles, rods, pistons, wheels, brakes, coilovers, EBC, basically I will never have one.

Lol, "will it help me get more detonation?".
Go to your local Autoparts store, they will sell them. They are cheap and are used to set timing. BTW, detonation is bad.

Ya i got all my parts at cost. I know someone he had a kit in stock and got it in 1week. I did the install with a friend last weekend. We took our time started at like 10pm friday. and worked till 3pm on Sunday.. yes we got sleep

Intercooler is on backorder.. I guess the greddy shipment is all in crates at some docs somewhere.. getting the type 31 for 600$ shipped.

btw im running stock timing, no intercooler, .4bar boost(says boost gauge), and no denination.. and i live in houston, tx.. its hot here she runs great. Iam nice to her if it im driving in the heat.. But in the morning its nice and when i leave its not so hot. SO she runs real good...

I do have colder plugs.
The blue box is giving her enough fuel.

Backorders suck. I had to wait at least two months before I got my kit, now I'm waiting for the Type 31 and turbo timer too.

Lol, I know what a timing light is. No one understands my sarcastic humor BTW, I was just busting your ***** about "enheiret" in your sig. For future reference, it's spelled "inherit". I love your avatar, where did you get it?

I ordered my Greddy kit at the end of April. My turbo arrived within a few days, but the exhaust came at the beginning of July and my Type 31 intercooler has yet to arrive. The distributor has been paid in full, and I'm tempted to ask for my money back on the intercooler ($675-shipped) if it doesn't come soon and maybe get another brand. I hope these guys didn't get my intercooler in already and sell it to someone else since they already have my money. Then again, it may be Greddy's fault since everyone else mentions it's on backorder. When I ordered the kit I had the opportunity to get the larger Type 24 (in stock at the time), but decided against cutting my bumper support. I should've taken it. Apexi is starting to look good if I can find one in stock. Should I continue to wait? What do you think?
