Default Decked d17 head?

Can a d17 head be decked? I've searched and searched and to no avail.I'm use to building v8's and have never built a 4 banger before but because these are interference motors I'm unsure if they can be decked to gain more compression.I'm doing this on a budget and am shooting for maybe 130hp with a non v-tech motor, obviously there will be other mods like porting and polishing, and possible a new intake mani.

*edit* I've read that using lower comp pistons these heads can be decked, but with a basically stock motor can it be decked?

I mean to each their own, but why? It's a tremendous waste of time and money to try to tweak NA mods out of these motors.

Do a nitrous build instead.

If you deck it you're going to have to check the piston to valve clearance and the you'll most likely need an adjustable cam gear to get the timing set right....depends on how much you take off though.

Milling the surface of the head where it meets the block, to raise the compression of the engine. (You could easily find that on Google, by the way.)

I've seen the D17 head be milled slightly. It's in the head swap thread in the FAQs I believe. I'd love to see a D17 NA build thread. I know a guy with a 144whp NA D17 . Bomerman19

I'm trying to do something that is different than just boosting, and besides nothing is more thrilling than hitting a power band that feels like boost and knowing that it's all motor. My friend has an 92 civic with the original motor and when he hits 3 grand it's ***** to the wall.I know these cars aren't "fast" but with the gas prices rising I can't afford to drive my 408 fox body and I'd like this car to peppy while getting good gas.So far the 1.7l has been nothing but a slouch but it gets good mileage. Thanks to the other responses, after speaking with numerous people that know honda's very well, I've decided that instead of decking it I'd rather spend my money on a mild cam and push the power band slightly higher.

if you have the d17a1 non vtec head you cant buy a cam you need to have it reground. but anyway i swapped me a1 head to a2 so i went to vtec . but before it went on, i head it decked at a local shop, guy charged me $40 .and i have a crower stage 1 cam, and AEM cam gear. runs great.
