About to start assembly on my LS/VTEC, any TIPS from the Professionals?
I've got all my parts and my head and block back from the shop. Now I am ready to assemble. This will be my first engine build from top to bottom. I am 99% confident in my work, but I always like 2nd opinions from the professionals who have done this over and over.
I ordered all new OEM Acura Parts including all the right size bearings. My only issue came when I got my block and rods back. The shop said the big end on the rods were a little oval so he resized them to the next size. They were size "2" so now he is saying they are size 3. I want to plastigage them to make sure they are correct.
- Any tips on how to plastigage?
- Should I use Assemble Lube ( I bought some Coastal Assembly Lube) or just Engine Oil (if so, what brand and weight. I bought some 30w Non-Detergent today).
- Break in period (what weight oil again?) and how long?
Just any assembly tips would be great. Thanks.
- My build parts:
b18a1 block
ITR head (all stock parts in the head)
P30 OS pistons and Rings
OEM Bearings and all new OEM parts (gaskets, seals, belts, etc..)
If you need any more info, let me know or PM me. Thanks.

Ya I've read that link over and over at least once a day.
Just looking for any tips or tricks I should be aware of or anything that I should look for.

99% confident in your abilities but unsure of how to plastigauge? Somethings not adding up...
Use assembly lube. Its consistency assures it will still be in the spots it needs to be in when the engine is fired.

Did the plastigage yesterday, turned out it was 100x easier than I thought. Wasn't hard at all. The best .87 cents I ever spent. Everything checked out and assembly continues.
