Default ls/vtec detonating when switching cam? (vafc hack and stock ls computer being used)

ok...i just finished the head swap and everything is fine except when the cam switches over. it's a stock 95 block and a 97 b16 head. the boost is at 8psi. timing is at 14 degrees. the computer is the stock 95 ls still. i have been using the vafc 'hack' and it's been problem free. since i put the head on, i thought i could just use the controller to set the crossover and correction there. i don't understand how i would set the thing to add more fuel because i have tried to play with those things and still detonates. what would the best thing be to do about controlling fuel and vtec...a reprogrammed computer? thanks for any help if anyone can.

I woulod go with a vtec ecu. The LS ecu doesnt have any way of knowing what goes on when there is a sudden change in engine performance (when vtec hits). Thats why your getting the detonation.

I'm not sure but wouldn't running the LS ecu keep the car from engaging vtec? I know definitely it wouldn't have the fuel maps for vtec but I thought the ecu would have to activate the solenoid to engage it and since it's an LS it doesn't have the circuitry for that? if i'm wrong... just a thought

well i tried and thought you could use a non vtec computer and use a vafc to activate the solenoid and do the fuel compensation which you can, but...i can't figure the fuel map thing out. it was definitely detonating and running lean though because i pulled the plugs out and checked the bitches.

hmm... well i dunno... the thing is... probably u need to enrich it more than u think. remember the vafc just scales the maps up a lil... not really enriching it.
