Are the difference is in the models from EX, LX, LXI? worht the $?
Is the six cyl the way to go?
Prices in my area seem pretty consistent between model years, except btw 99 and 00, where the range about doubles, mybe that's just the market, or model change?
Can expect to do the basic stuff like oil, plugs, brakes, etc., maybe more?
Are the electrics reliable? From the little I've seen, seems like are fuses everywhere.
How do the tranny's hold up? Can I get a stick?
Always owned American type before and can turn a wrench, but not sure of the peculiarities for this brand.
Thanx

The LX-i hasnt been around since 1989, so thats out of the question. Since 1990, there have been 3 model generations. 90-93 4th, 94-97 5th, 98-02 6th.
They come in DX, LX, EX, SE, V6 and some special and aniversary editions.
The V6 never came with a manual transmission, and the 5th gen V6 is hopeless, heavy and has NO aftermarket.
The amount of maintence you will need to do really depends on how the car was taken care of.
Electronics are sorta reliable. Some cars have distributor problems, and there is a current ignition switch recall on 5th gens.
Accord auto trannies suck. Manual 2nd gear synchros tend to go fast.
Only 4 cylinder models came with a manual transmission.
I'll sell you my 5th gen. Only 47,000 miles on a 1997 Lx 5-speed. Plus, the ignition switch was already fixed so you don't have to worry about the recall. E-mail me for pics/info.
I'll drive it to you too.

There really is no aftermarket replacement. And I wouldnt trust a used one from a junkyard. What you can do is get the tranny proffessionally rebuilt (cost me $1400 using all Honda parts + a 12 month warranty) and send it to level ten for reinforcment. They have different upgrade packages that you can choose from, and generally its cheaper for Hondas. You can find all that they offer at http://www.levelten.com
Friend of mine got an upgrade for a 93 Probe GT. What a fuggin difference!! The shifts are nowhere near smooth (which I really like), but they are hella fast. The torque converted has a higher stall speed now and the pedal feel and tranny response is way better too...meaning he can control his shifts better now. That plus, he's running 3 external tranny fluid coolers, and a second external tranny fluid filterl (he's a little koo koo).
