This happened last week near Sao Paulo, Brazil...39 years old, father of two...

Incredible how quick everything can happen.
(Not sure on where to post so I made a new thread, move it if necessary).

Holy cow, that was frightening to watch. He just went wide and SMACK! There are sooooo many things that he could have done to prevent that, but he did nothing. I guess he just froze up, like a deer in the headlights.
Doesnt look like speed was an issue in regard to running it wide, the chase bike was going about 64 MPH on turn entry and the fallen rider wasnt pulling away so he was travelling at about the same pace. It Didnt look like a particularly difficult corner either (decreasing radius, off camber, etc). I think he target fixted and consequently drove straight in to what he didnt want to hit, a common new rider error (ask me how I know about that). If you watch his head is not turned to the right so as to look through the corner.
Either way thats sad. RIP.
Newbs do yourself a favor and take a riding class or at least do a trackday before you hit the canyons. We have all made mistakes and gotten lucky, but in this guys case he didnt and it could easily be any one of us in his position.

I dont think he was a noob at riding or anything.. he wouldnt be in the lead with a chase bike behind him. He was wearing full leathers, and it didn't look like he was trying anything stupid.
Just a mistake

In the OP video it looks like the rider touched pegs and subsiquently frioze up after seeing his corrected line was going to take him into oncoming traffic

Morungaba is a county in the state of Sao Paulo...together with "Serra Negra" (another neighbor county) it is a very popular site for bikers to ride...you could say it's the brazilian version of Deals Gap.
Here's some vids:

Is it cheaper to import bikes in Brazil than it is in Venezuela? It kinda seems like supersports are more common in Brazil, judging by the videos.
BTW, is it just me, or does it seem like Youtube is doing site maintenance every couple of days lately?

Near 200 million inhabitants vs aprox 26 million...it's more common to see more bikes in Brazil
Prices are pretty similar for most models...but naked models like the Hornet, Bandit and similar are much cheaper in Brazil...besides, here in Venezuela we don't have bikes like the Hornet 600 and Bandit (650 and 1250).
Also, the bike culture is much more advanced in there. There are tons of stores to buy gear, much easier for a rider to get proper gear than in here. Also buying a bike is easier, they let you finance the bike, whereas in Venezuela it's VERY hard to buy a financed bike, you have to pay cash (And to have that kinda of money laying around, only few people have it to afford a brand new SS).
Brazil has a much more deep, diverse and intense bike culture than in Venezuela...I envy not being there

The more I learn about that country, the more I want to spend some time there.

You should. Let me know when that happens, I plan on returning there to live next year...if you need a place to crash or any info, let me know

Here's some trailers for a DVD that documents all the brazilian riding culture...made by the best and most expert bike reporter/writer from Brazil..."Doctor Tite"

I think I'll find a latino woman and make her teach me. That way I can teach her some things in return. We could each have our first lessons at the same time:
"Si si si si si si si"

Another sad accident...this one happened on the outskirts of Caracas, on a highway where sometimes I like to ride to clear my mind.
The guy is in a coma, but it seems like he has no chance of coming back. Since he is from a wealthy family, the clinic is syphooning (sp?) all the money they can before pulling the plug
Details on the accident are a little sketchy, a friend of mine filmed this video, he told me that minutes before, he saw a group of sportbikes blowing by him, he calculated they were doing 150 MPH. It seems like a car pulled over in front of the guy, and then...well, you know.
Be careful out there fellas.
