really frustrated right now
Ok, so heres the deal. The other day i was drivin through a steak and shake parking lot at like 7mph. as i come around one side to get to the drive through my car just like dies pretty much. i thought it was off because the rpms were basically 0 but i could still here the motor like gurgling at 10rpm or somethin crazy low like that. very soon after hearing this it just dies completely. So i'm like oooo k that was interesting, and i go to start it back up again. It cranks and cranks and cranks but will not turn over. after having it towed home i looked over anything obvious, and other things less obvious, and determined i had fuel. once i checked for spark there wasn't any. after lookin at a few other things i and a mechanic friend thought quite likely it was the dizzy. now that i've finally received the darn thing i went ahead and installed it, as well as a new cap and button. I now have spark! figuring that would solve the issue i go to crank it over, and still i get bupkis! so i think well hey i cranked it for awhile before, the plugs are probably all soaked and gnarly lookin. So i get the right socket from my mechanic friend and pull all the plugs. They were nasty to say the least. I cleaned em up the best i could with the edge of a knife and removed all the gunk that was attached to pretty much everything. and then also made sure that the areas were clean where the spark would be jumping. After cleaning them all i proceeded to reinstall them, hook up the plugs again, and have another go. This time i really felt it would kick over! Upon cranking it over i hear almost immediately a fairly loud pop/bang that sounded like a bunch of unburnt fuel igniting. After that pop i went to crank it again, and once again it just turns over and over and over but refuses to actually start.
i dont get it. fuel pump is on, i have fuel. i have spark. firing order is correct. checked grounds, and added one for good measure. cleaned out and dried spark plugs. ran motor for a second with plugs out to try and free cylinders of any residual gas. And still it refuses to start. I'm really at wits end and its pissin me off that i cant figure this fugger out. and its an even bigger PITA that i have to drive my boosted mustang to school thats 40 mins away, only gettin at best 15mpg! i cant afford this at $4 a gallon for premium.
Someone please enlighten me and tell me something i dont already know and havent already tried
Sorry for being long, but i was trying not to leave out anything useful or pertinent out

friend of mine had the set of allen keys at work with him so while i was gettin the button and rotor cover from advance he took the liberty of puttin the screw in for me. so i assumed it was tight enough. and ive only cranked it a few times since its been put back together. if it fell off already that'd be pretty ridiculous, but i will check just to be sure.
thats on my list of things to do but like other things, i need to borrow one. i did check the dizzy insides and as i expected its all where it should be. the rotor button didnt fall off, and the screw is firmly in place.
