Default B16A CRX brake help requested

First, the obligatory yes, I did a search.

Car: 1988 CRX HF with a B16A. The previous owner didn't do the swap, so he couldn't tell me many details.

Situation: The front brakes look like HF calipers and rotors to me, and I'd like to go to Si brakes.

Problems and questions: I am finding conflicting information as to whether or not the B16A swap can be done with the HF knuckles. Do I even have HF brakes? Am I missing something obvious? Any positive way to identify which knuckles I have? (The right knuckle is stamped LH3-H.) And if these are HF brakes and knuckles, how can I install Si brakes?

You can't possibly have HF hubs and brakes because your swaped axles would not fit in!!

Hf's have the smallest honda axle and are not compatable with any other axle!

You prob have DX hubs which is same as SI hubs and brakes!

Also, HF brake pads and different than DX and SI.....Take your pad to the store and compare them to the DX OR SI pad!

But don't those look like HF calipers? And if those are HF calipers, do they fit onto Si/DX knuckles?

there is always the possibility that custom axles were made. i would just take the pads to the auto parts store and see which model they match. you'll know more after that

David,

Just got the new GRM

Also you can use an HF knuckle but you have to put a smaller end on custom axles.

If you want to get simple axles (which GRM is about keeping it simple) get a CRX/CRX Si/Civic DX/ Civic Si/Civic EX knuckle and you can get axles from any parts places.

Also if you want to do and SIMPLE upgrade get some 90-93 DA Integra knuckles direct bolt on. And no issues with axles. This will give you a larger brake and you can setup to the 11.1" Prelude/Legend rotor and ITR/Accord Wagon caliper. This can also be accomplished with the Civic EX knuckle but they are a little harder to come by.

Shoot me a PM or email if you still have my email.

I now know more. I picked up some semi-loaded 1988 CRX Si calipers and 1988 CRX Si rotors. Both bolt to my knuckles and it looks like there's room for pads. (Pads are on the way.) So, I don't know exactly which knuckles I have, but at least I can run Si brakes.

I have an HPDE coming up. It's at Roebling which is easy on brakes, but no one seems to have decent pads for the HF calipers. Hawk has made some HPS pads, but no one seems to have them. With the Si calipers, the world is my oyster. I figure if the Si brakes are good enough for the ITA racers, then they should be good enough for me. And if I want to go bigger later, I can.

Still, is there an easy to way to identify my knuckles?

How strong is the B16? You may want to upgrade further on the brakes. FastBrakes makes a great 11" kit using VW Corrado rotors. I have them on my B16 powered CRX and love them.
