To remove the flywheel you need the follow.

Clutch Tool(Comes standard with new Flywheels and and Clutches)

8 MM 12 point socket

17mm 12 point socket(Might Be Wrong on Size for Flywheel Bolts)

Torque Wrench

Specs

To remove the pressure plateuse 12 point sockets on bolts along the edge of the pressure plate.

Once off the pressure plate and clutch will come out.

Now you are left with the flywheel bolts 8 of them. They are torqued down to 76lbs.

To remove them you can use the special tool that bolts onto the bell housing, or stick a crow bar in and have one person hold the flywheel in place with pressure on the wheel so it doesnt move when you spin the socket wrench.
Once the bolts are off reassmble following like this.

Install flywheel plate.

Loosely put all the bolts into the flywheel(Use red locktite if you need, and its suggested) and make them all hand tight. Have someone else apply pressure on the crow bar so that the wheel doesnt spin when you move it.

Tighten them down in three intervals. Tighten them all in the same pattern.

Torque the bolts in that order and do this three times. Each time you torque all bolts to a different torque valve.

Torque first to 29lbs
Torque Second to 56 lbs
Final torque to 76 lbs.

Than install clutch and pressure plate, by loosely inserting all the bolts into the pressure plate so they are loosely threaded on the flywheel.

Take the clutch alignment tool, and stick it into the center of the clutch so it sits firm with the flywheel locked in place.

Next hand tighten down all 6 bolts on the pressure plate so that the flywheel sits even and doesnt sit crooked on the engine, this will cause premature failure.

Once bolts are tighten toruqe them down in this sequence.

Torque them down to 19lbs.

 

u mean the flywheel spins? uhh jam the teeth with something solid so u can pry on it

 

if u can find a dowel or something that is the same size you can use that.

 

suggestions:
-put a ratchet on the crank pulley bolt.
-use impact gun
-use piece of angle iron or flat iron, drill 2 holes in it and bolt it to the flywheel and use as a lever

the only clutch tool i have ever used was to align the clutch on install.

me neither..... i dont see why he is prying with a crow bar if he loosened all the bolts

i was assuming he meant on reinstallation

 

yea well u need to take those bolts off first so dont pry on anything... after u loosen the pressure plate bolts... it will come off and then u can remove the clutch disk itself.... and at the center of the flywheel there are six more of those 12 point bolts but theyre 17's... u cant take it ALL off together

 

yea, the flywheel is not going to just pop off if you don't loosed up the bolts up first. Take off the pressure plate and disc. then you need some 12-point sockets to loosen up the bolts that hold the flywheel in place.

u have to remove those bolts thats why prying it aint working

Not to be mean, but we have 2 write-ups on how to do a clutch job in the faq's, and they both mention the specific tools needed to remove the clutch and flywheel. It is a good idea to find out what tools you will need for a job before you do it, instead of prying and hitting stuff and breaking it, it makes things not work right!

Bolts man.....bolts and wrenches. No crow bar.

 

im curious what exactly you did w/ the universal clutch tool you picked up?

 

pressure plate is 10mm and flywheel is 12mm both 12 point sockets. i would recomend droping by a shop and having them break loose the flywheel bolts w/ an impact, unless you have one. you could use a 1/2" drive 19mm socket on the crank pulley or do it the wrong way and jam something in the teeth of the flywheel through the inspection cover but either way is more trouble than its worth.

HAHAHA I'm sorry but thats funny as hell. As stated, you need the 12pt socket set which are like 30 bucks from sears.

And stop blaming the "Mexicans" ahah

You have to take the clutch/pressure plate off first. Have you removed the 10 or so huge bolts that hold the flywheel on???

 

Drop the crowbar and slowly back away from the car.
