Really weird question(s)
I searched on both the site and google but didn't come across any straight answers. Maybe my keywords were off on honda-tech but I got nothing so be easy on me
.
First question is I have a 92' prelude si (autotragic I believe is the term used around here) and at highway speeds i'm at anywhere from 3,000 - 4,000 RPM @ 100 - 120 KM/H (55-80 MPH). I'm about to go on a long road trip that would be about 8 hours straight driving on the highway. I'm assuming that this will not hurt the engine in anyway being that high of RPM for that long non stop (except for gas breaks)?
Second question is i've noticed that I have a very small leak, maybe a drip or so every few days on the garage floor just recently started after my last oil change. But since this leak has started whenever you have to get on it (floor it to pass / merge) you get almost like a burning/melting plastic smell for a second or so then it goes away. Is this oil being burned off near or from the leak from the engine heat?
Third and last question to get off my chest is after a vehicle has been sitting for a long time without being driven say months - years, is it normal for engine compression to drop? The local mechanic says that this can be normal and after streching the legs of the car and driving it on a daily baisis that the compression can come up again. Can anyone confirm this?
Yes I am a newb with vehicles, i'm young and interested in learning though!
Thanks guys for taking the time to both read and or reply.

- ive driven from florida to new york and back twice only stopping for about 30 mins whenever i needed gas. you should have no problem with 800 miles.
- find you leak and go from there.
- compression shouldnt drop, but its easy enough to check.

I will assume that was in a h23/auto ;o?

I will definetly take a closer look tommorow, but would oil burn off smell like burning plastic (outside of the engine)?

When I first picked it up I had a compression check done, was 180 across the board. After sitting for a very long time, was just curious if compression goes down after awhile of not running.
From what i've heard engines with 150,xxx km (100,xxx miles) 180 isn't all that bad.
Thanks for the reply.

Your rpm's are fine, thats where our cars trannies run at highway speeds. You will be fine for an extended drive.
My guess on your drops and smell are that your oil filter isnt on tight enough and is leaking, or your seal bewteen the block and oil filter housing is leaking, and drips onto your exhaust when running, giving a burning oil smell, so check that area for leaks.
