Here is a valve cover I painted a few days ago. Figured I would post it up since I saw a few people before ask what "marbleizing" is.
I painted it using all PPG. I use dupont at my work, but all this shop used was PPG. I am not too familiar with ppg's product codes, but ill try to answer any questions.
Its very hard to see in my shitty pictures. But the black has the effect of NHPB, but on a larger scale. I threw a little violet and frost blue pearl in one layer of clear, but it is hard to see in any lighting besides real sunlight for the true effect.
(BTW, its for sale
check my for sale add)

What do you think? The sculls were not in my plan. I originally planned to pinstripe it (to eliminate the pearl around the edge in the last pic) but that was far too time consuming considering I planned to sell it.

Ha, no I don't normally get runs
Marbleizing is fun actually. You need your base color down (in this case black). Then pick out whatever color pearl you want to use. I used white pearl, just for the simple fact it will stand out the most over black. Mix a little pearl in with some DBC500 and reducer, spray it on 1-2 coats kind of thick. Have a piece of plastic handy. I use the same type of plastic sheets that we use to cover the cars with. Saran wrap will probably give the same effect. Spray one last WET coat and immediately put the plastic over the part. Dab it in a few times here and there. Let it flash and spray the candy. Clear and be done.
It should hold up to the heat just fine. We have painted blocks and even a head that have held up pretty good. So this will be fine.
It would have looked better had I planned to keep the car. I had the topmount manifold with the cold side of the turbo that was going to be painted marble green, with matching charge pipe to give the effect of it comming from the front of the car back. Pin striping and airbrush shadowing were going to be done, and no skulls, but lack of time and no car to put it on made it happen this way.

To be perfectly honest, getting it powdercoated candy green would be cheaper. That is unless you want the marbleized look

Uh, a few hours. Not really sure actually as I spaced it apart within a week or so. If I had to guess I would estimate total work time at around 5-6+ hours, maybe a hour or two more. I fiddled pin striping it for a good 2-3 hours also, but didnt like how it looked so I wiped it off. This was a personal project, obviously if it was a customer part I would have taken it more seriously.
