Default car dies in neutral????

Latley when I shift out of gear to stop at a red light for example, my rpms drop to almost zero and my lights dim as if the car wants to die. Half a second later they jump right back up to normal idle. This has been happening for about two weeks now. But today I was in the high way and shifted out of 5th and the car just compleatly died at 80. Started right back up after I pulled over. What could be causing the surge in the rpms. Battery is brand new. I was thinking grounds are bad somewhere or i have a vac leak but I wanted to get other oppinions first. Any ideas? Thanks!

Grounds would be a good place to start with 99% of electrical problems.

Check your battery contacts too. You should not be able to even rotate your terminal clamps (ie, they should be pretty tight to insure good electrical contact).

Follow your black battery cable (smaller wire) down to bottom of your tranny. Make sure that ground is good too. That one is always getting green and falling apart. If its screwed replace it with the largest guage wire you can get your hands on. #6 awg is adiquit. If you can get it insulated that would be better too. It might not oxidize as fast.

Good luck bro!
