Default OK finally got the rex insured and these are the problems:...........

Ok when i turb the wheel quickly right to left or vise versa it will make a slight clunking noise.

Many of my friends have told me it is the sterring rack bushings. Does this sound like the problem? Where can i get a bushing kit?

When i drive down the road and not accelerating or braking it makes the same noise only faster or slower depending on my speed. You can also feel it in the car a bit. Do you think the steering rack bushings can cause this knock during driving.

Im sure they are btoh related but not sure if it is my rack bushings. The car passed gov inspection and i didnt think thed let that go but obviously they did.

THX a lot guys

BTW if you need me to check anything then let me know i can take pics also

well it could be your cv joints in the axle, because my friends car also does that, and know the problem on his car is the axle.

When you go out to your car, look for spots of grease on the ground behind your tires (under the axles). Sounds like your CV joints to me.

I had this problem with my old Accord and here's the deal...I had BOTH Half-Shafts/CV-joints replaced...still made noise, so I took it to a guy who put it up on a jack and put it in drive and took a stethescope(yes that's right) and put it to the hub assembly...from that he was able to determine that it was my wheel bearing and not the axle...60 bux to replace(just got one from a junk yard...so that's what I would have checked out...because my car acted the same way you said yours does...

This may sound wierd, but check to make sure your lugnuts are all torqued to spec.

I suggest you investigate the wheel bearings like the other guy said. I had to replace one of mine this past spring and I had similar symptoms as you are experiencing.

Good Luck !

ok how would i do that..........

BTW my axle on that side is brand new boots still new and all.

The thing is i can make the exact same cluck noise by turning the steering wheel while parked 1" left or right.

Does this sounds right: I think it is the wheels bushings cause the front wheels are slightly off alignment so the wheels tend to jitter in the play of the old bushings ?

i just checked the lugnutz turbed out all four i forgot to actually tighten I coul move them with my finger. I always wait till the cars on the ground and i got a little quick last time i gues

BBBBBBBBBBWWWWWWWWWWWWWAHAHAHAA

Do you think that could be the problem on top of the steering bushings issue.

if that didnt stop it...

its not the steering rack bushings, its the whole steering rack. It cant be bearings because they dont clunk clunk clunk, they make a whirrrring sound. The steering rack has fluid or grease in it (i think) and if it leaked out it will clunk.

I had this problem on mine, i thought it was a cv, then i thought it was bearings, turned out to be the whole rack.

I'm glad that you got those tightened before the inevitable happened... its not fun having a wheel come off while going down the road. Anyway, with a problem that severe, chances are good that there was nothing wrong with the steering rack. just get them tightened down to spec, and monitor it real good for a little while to see if the rack really is bad, or if the vibrations were caused only by the loose lugnuts.

Also check the tie rods.
this is an easy way to check the tie rods and wheel bearing.
jack up one side of the car.
grab the front wheel that's in the air at 9 and 3 (left right) and try to rock it gently.
If you feel play in it, the tie rod is most likely bad.
grab the wheel at 12 and 6 (up and down) and also try to rock it.
If you feel play, the bearing is deffinitely bad.

yeah that was the problem. The steering still clunks slightly but on my friends CRX is does the same thing. Ill juustt leave it for a bit im pretty sure it is the part where it angles down the main steering shaft.

Your problem is your rack end bushing, it is made of plastic much like the plastic piece that holds your the ball on your shifter (if you've ever taken it apart). 90% of Civics/CRX's have this problem (I've been meaning to replace mine) because of the age of the cars. Replace this and the "clunking" you are describing will go away. Most people don't notice or realize that this is the problem.

If you don't have access to a hoist it is easiest to pull out your entire steering rack. THe rack-end bushing is on the passenger side.
