B Series VS K series
Was thinking of redoing my beater car. Currently running a B20 Vtec atm on my civic. What are the pros and cons from a B Series VS K series overall all motor? Which is better and more reliable persay?
Kaye series is the latest and greatest. It makes more power stock, with bolt ons, with nitrous, and boost.
If you can afford it, Kaye motors are great (but don't get the weenie 160hp K20). If not, the b series motors are still great.

K-series are dope motors.. They can make ALOT of power with just bolt ons, they are bigger, and very robust (yes, even the 160 hp one)..
Pro's of k-series:
Bling factor of having a k series
you can start out with 200 hp
tranny has LSD
6 speed (only type s)
Bolt on's will net great power, with more to be gained from internal's
Con's of k-series:
expensive (whole drivetrain, wiring harness, custom axles, etc.)
Not bolt in (you need to get special and expensive motor mounts)
Shifter assembly is completely different, so you have to do fab work..
you HAVE to buy headers to install this (unless you are a king of okey rig)
NEVER will be smog legal in any car that didnt have a k-series, because they use a non-returnable fuel system, as opposed to the returnable system that is on yours (its illegal to change this)
Pro's of b-series:
Strong, tried, and true
Massive abundance of them
very cheap (when compared to k)
damn near bolt in (very few things have to be changed, depending on which car you are swapping into.. 88-91 pretty much bolt in if Dx/Si)
parts are cheap, and make great power
ls/b20 vtec motors are very inexpensive for the power they create.. a b20 with a gsr head will make just as much power as the k-series stock.. and its cheaper
If you break a tranny, it doesnt cost an arm and a leg to get another
You can still make tons of power, without breaking your wallet
Can be smogged and street driven if swapped
Con's of b-series:
Not a K-series (no bling bling factor)
small displacement except for b20(1.6, 1.7 - very rare, 1.8)
Do not respond as well to bolt on's as k-series
Technology is kind of old (but still very ill)
the transmission's are not as strong as the k
no 6 speed
It really depends on how much you wanna spend.. weigh your options.. Personally, bang for buck, Id rather go with a b series, or even turbo a d-series (they make alot of power).. People always say " you can make more power on a k.. would you rather make 350 or 450 hp?" I say, " I would love to have any power plant (in the street anyway) that makes 300-400 hp, because I will probably never need that. How many DD's do you see with 450HP in the street? You dont." Peak HP is a moot point when you are talking about street power.. If your goal is a 300 hp DD, then think, "how can I make 300 hp?" A d-series will do it (with boost), a b-series will do it (with boost), an f-series will do it (with boost, but makes more with an h22 head), and a k-series will do it (all motor, but it takes some work)
The cheapest way to get 300 hp in your car, would be to mildly build a d16z6 with some rods and pistons, and boost the shi+ out of it.. 1.6, vtec, can rev high (if you build the head).. Its all good..
But in your case, since you already have a b-series, I would stick with the b, and grab a gsr block, throw a b16 head on it, and boost the hell out if it.. I wouldnt boost the b20 vtec without lowering the compression..
what kind of power are you looking for? Street/track? track only?

Wow, that's a pretty ignorant (not to mention WRONG) statement.
