Okay this really isnt technical but i have to ask for your guys honest opinion. Ive always wanted a STI or a EVO and now that they are out with the new body styles Im debating on getting rid of my si and getting a new STI. I kno that a lot of you are going to say that with the money you are spending you can s/c your car and all that. for the most part i wanna be able to run a car wiht exhaust and intake and get a low 13 possibly a high 12. yet its going to remain warrentyed and all that. the monthely bill would flip from 188.52 to a 388. a 200 dollar increase.

with all that bs stated i need your guys opinion on wether or not to get rid of my si. these are al thoughts that im considering.

 

Well don't forget to tack on the extra hike in insurance payments....and believe me.....it's a BIG hike.

But hey....if you can afford it and you really want it and feel the car suits you....then don't let US stop you.

In my personal opinion though.....the new STi looks ugly and the new EVO looks alright but is slower than the older EVOs. I'd take the older Evo over the newer one anyday.....same goes for the STi.....I Like the '07 models.........hate the new wagon models.

But as far as reliability goes.....the Subaru is on top over Mitsubishi by a long shot.

And remember.....once you make the decision to get the Subaru/Mitsu.....you can't go back without digging yourself even deeper.....so make sure it's REALLY what YOU wanna do.

 

You're smart and you know that only you can make your final decision, so I will just give you my honest opinion of the STi.

I don't own an STi and have only driven one twice (the new generation at least). My friend traded in his Evo 8 for a 2009 STi so he let me drive it a little. I never got to beat on it, but here is what I think of it.

It's the ugliest one yet. It makes me sick. I wouldn't buy that thing if it had 450 hp and the same payment as my Si. Obviously, you must like how it looks to be considering it but it's my honest opinion. Looks do mean a lot to me for something that I pay over $20k+ (let alone $35k) for. It's insanely fast and the transmission is great and the rims are really nice. It handles amazingly. There is so much grip that it's dangerous for a 19 year old kid.

The interior is very weak for a $35k car. I understand the whole minimalist, lightweight thing, but some very lightweight c-f couldn't hurt. I like my Si seats A LOT more. And an 80 watt stereo?! Come on Subaru!


*edit*- I too would rather have the Evo 8.

 

STi is dope. It's very expensive. the 188 a month for the Si and 388 for an STi both make me curious as to how you'd arrive at such payments.

If it makes financial sense, and you have you priorities straight financially, why not. it's a car; not a house, or a baby.

just keep in mind your priorities and consider if this can negatively affect your future at all. there is a reason i waited until my late 20's to get a brand new performance car...i decided to get married and get a house before all of that.

 

guys thanks for the imputs. I agree that the older evos and stis looked a lil better. but for some reason the new sti is growing on me. realiablity the sti over the evo is how i think to RICO. 2008fiji you think its ugly but love its performance. thats a good thing to hear seeing that i like the looks and if you like power so will I. I havnt test drove one yet so im not fully sure on the interior being "cheap" but i take your word for if. Built Im not gonna lie to ya My parents helped me out alot for my first car. The bussiness that my dad works at did really good and he got a huge xmas bonus. He bought me a tc. Later down the road a lady hit me the car wasnt wat it was since 12K in damages. So i eventually traded it in when i was 18 and put a lil cash over to get the si. car was 23,000 with what i got and got 11K for the tc and put 2K down. 10K on 60months is a nice low payment. the sti I would hope to get 12 for my car after they pay it off since i only owe 7K and then fork over a couple K to make up the diff. I get what you saying about buying a house and getting married. i have a g/f that ive been with for going on 4 yrs so it makes sense. but housing is rediculous in Md specually thinking about it while im still in college. There is alot to factor in and im going to have to sit on this one for a little bit to see what happens.

ahh i c. i didnt mean to get into your personal stuff, but it is just something i was curious about, and hoped you had considered. sounds like there isn't any real reason to not get it if the car is what you like.

the only reason, and the ONLY reason i'd not get it this year is because i don't get first year issue cars. my 97 hatch was second year, my 07 si, despite being first year for a sedan, was second year for pretty much 100% of the car. my ms3....second year. i think it gives the manufacturer some time to kill some of the bugs that assault first year issue cars. even if the car has been elsewhere and debuts here, there are still changes made for its first year here so i wait.

on the plus side, if you did drive your car for another year, the value would not go down all that much and you'd have even more paid off.

 

hey its np about the personal stuff its just good looking out. but ye i hear you on the 2nd year of production my tc was first year and i liked it but no radio ***** on steering wheel, 2nd year 07 si i was able to get the VSA but also make it harder to run fogs. If i waited a year, yes more of the car would be paid off but it would also have a reflash and more parts on it that i would have to sell once i get rid of the car. i cant help myself. when i say i wanna do a list of parts i dont stop till i have it just the way i like it. for the sti a list of parts would be intake, turboback exhaust and maybe cobb tunign.

it's a nice piece man. i'm sure just a few bolt-ons will yield a car that is almost untouchable on the street.

 

Yea my buddy is a big sti guy. the shop he goes to will do a access port,turboback exhuast,intake and inlet piping and say that you shoule be in a 12.7. so hopefully. are there any car shows that you go to Built?? I kno that you are in New Jersey which isnt all that far from Md.

That 12.7 sounds pretty accurate. When I was at the track, a brand new STi (still had temp tags) was running low 13s.

I didn't mean to say the interior is cheap. It's not like a KIA or some peice of s**t. I personally would just expect a lot more in a $35k car, performance oriented or not.

 

I think the new Stis are nice, the new evos look good, but are a disgrace compared to their oversees brothers. However, I don't think either car is worth its pricetag. They have power and handling, but niether of them has the comfort level a 35k car should. Infiniti G37 Coupe would ride nice, and still be quick and fun to drive. As would a Z.

 

yea but ive had my eye set on a STI for a long time. but went today to test drive and it was a no go. wanted me to sit around and have my car appraised and work all the numbers and run my credit and get a figure that was rite and then test drive and if i liked it sign and leave. but if i didn like it i had to make my decision up in 2days. . it was gay. and sarting over on payments isnt the smartest thing to do.

The rents are kool with cars but since im under there roof i cant get a bike which was my alternative.

I don't get it....I thought you already had all the numbers worked out with them. You said your payment would go up a couple hundred bucks.

Did they just throw that at you to get you in the door?

Running your credit score and car appraisal is a normal thing. All dealerships have to do that....unless you're paying cash of course. Which you're not. And having 2 days to return it and "back out" is a good thing. Not all dealerships offer that option.

But you are right about starting over on payments though....no bueno.

 

You're 19, even assuming no tickets your insurance will be through the [freak]ing roof.

If your parents are paying then you're spoiled, but go for it

 

with gas prices these days, f*** the sti and evo.

 

ok if you go online and find an auto loan calculator you can type in the numbers and get a monthly bill. dealing with the intrest rate it fluctuates. but i get about 22mpg in my si. and RICO no they didnt throw me out the door. they said when your commited to buying we will do everything and then drive. so they are nice but ppl that i talk to about them, they say they are a bad dealership.

That's not cool. I would never commit to a car without driving it first.

 

exactly. thats why im lookign at a diff dealership that has the color that i want. After tlking to one of my friends he said that if its an sti that i want i might be better off looking for a left over 07 and be able to save a couple grand seeing that, that body style is out.
