Default B16B STROKE QUESTION!!

Ok I really need help on this asap. I have a buddy selling me a B16B with tranny and everything for only 1k. It spun a bearing and the crank was damaged. The block was sent out to a machine shop and passed inspection. The head is completely fine. I searched and I found that people use GSR or ITR cranks and rods to stroke the B16B to a 1.8. I understand that the GSR, ITR, and B16B have the same block.

The reason why I don't use another B16B crank is because they are almost $800 bucks and I have a good GSR crank laying around.

Ok enough yapping. my question is.... Can you use a GSR crank with GSR rods and retain the stock B16B pistons? Or do I have to use GSR pistons as well?

Thanks for any help

was the main or rod damaged. if it was the main it may need a align hone.
you can use the gsr, itr,or even ls crank and rods in the b16b. you can use any of the pistons but some are mucn better than others

One of the main bearings spun. Ok thanks so so much for clearing that up for me. I can go ahead and buy it now. Im gonna run a micro-polished GSR crank, Eagle H-beam rods(GSR) and the CTR pistons. Ill update the thread when I snap pics.

Do you have ANY idea how high your compression will be with those pistons? Please research this some more and then make a choice. Those pistons + that crank and block + pump gas = done. Also, why are you wasting the money on those rods? The pistons are by far more of weak link then those rods. If its going to stay NA, keep the stock GSR/ITR rods.

just get a used set of r or gsr rods. the ctr's wont work with the eagles. also have him let you have it checked by a shop to see if its fixable. if it beat up the journal it may be no good

"one of the main bearings spun"

i seriously doubt that by just measuring or eyeballing the spec's on that same journal would make it ok.. line hone i think is needed.. if it wer the rods? u can just replace the crank and rod etc..

Yea you guys are right. The block was sent to a machine shop and they checked all the journals. It came back ok. Ill have another shop check and and see if the journal is really ok.

Ok guys I have an update. I will no longer be using a GSR crank since I was able to get a CTR crank for a good price. Im still in a pickle because I don't have rods. What are my rod options? Im having a hard time finding CTR rods.

The block was inspected by a second shop. They did a line hone and it passed. The shop man took a look at the crank and rods. It turns out that it wasn't a spun main bearing it was a rod bearing that spun. So thats good news.
