Default Possible cracked head??

94 ex coupe- no mods, its my DD

ok, well I was going to get some new tires put on an while going out there it started over heating out of no where. I pulled over and popped the hood to check it out and there wasnt any cooliant leaking but the overflow was smoking and had water in it. so I got back in the car to let it cool off and when I sat back down it was already mid range on the temp gauge???? so I closed the hood and kept going(only a mile or so to the garage) no problem, temp didnt raise a bit. waited for the tires to be put on and drove home no problem.... picking up a new thermostat on the way home though ..

got home installed the thermo filled with cooliant and no problems... drove it to get washed and went to pick up my GF to go eat dinner and WTF??!! less then 15 min overheating again??!! Let it cool off again and took it home. Room mate said to bleed the air out and I did .. BUT, while its running and I have a funnel with cooliant in it on the radiator... when it gets to temp for the thermostat to open the cooliant starts bubbling and flying out of the funnel.

now im not much of a cooling system troubleshooter but ... it seemed like air was being forced into the system???? I dont know?

Any thoughts?

im going to assume that the pump has never been changed .... so ... 135,xxx or so.

I thought it would maybe be that .. but the fact that the cooliant is flowing led me away from that... I dont know

there is a lot of air in your system. When the coolant gets hot the air comes gushing out of the cooling system.

Let it all gush out, and let the thermostat open and then fill coolant.

im going to assume you had your heater on and your thermostat was open when you filled the coolant. if not, then do that. But if everything was done right, your car sounds just like mine when i had a blown headgasket. The water pump should be fine if its still flowing and not leaking
