Parts development, available technologies, budget, time allowed, available materials, existing data, and again budget are the factors to how good or bad a car will turn out. It's not that hard to figure out, really.

That depends on the person who owns the car and how they drive & maintain it. Most factory engines are tested to be within spec before they leave the factory floor. However you may occasionally get a lemon. I would say 9 times out of 10 it would be the owner that causes premature engine failure or fatigue (loss of power/strength).

If you drive'er hard and put'er away dry it won't be as strong or last as long as someone who drives'er hard and puts'er away wet.

I think it initially depends on how the engine is broken in. How well the rings can seal against the cylinders. Even though they should all be perfect, some will seal better than others...
Next would be how the engine is taken care of. Engine oil quality, how hard the engine has been driven, and for how long. I think it all boils down to actual working compression.
Then maybe cam timing production tolerances and valve lash. The difference in these on factory assembled engines would probably be miniscule...
My thoughts...

Well, this is what I always kid about a broken car from a car that is running well. Probably the car was built on a Monday, Friday, or Super Bowl day.

Head casting quality varies. Seems to be the biggest variable on the b16 engines. This would show up as more HP on some motors that have a "nicer" ports.

Ah... he wasn't comparing a b16a to a b16a he was comparing two different engine generations ie an a1 vs a4. The question actually makes scenes now....

I posted what I did being sarcastic myself. Because this guy gives you the thumbs for that generic POS answer. :headshake: If there are casting differences in the same engine code/generation maybe you could share in how to find the casting differences between a b16a1 and another b16a1. That would be a more technical answer that I would be looking for. It's "Honda-Tech" not "Honda general garbage info".

Cheers

Just to get over your over inflated ego's for a moment. Are there any visible differences in the castings of the good b16a1 and the bad b16a1 that you could pass on to us little people?

It has been covered. Why are you getting upset and resorting to name calling when you're the one who misread the question?
