anyone happened to run their engine at idle with no oil after an oil change before?

did you foget to put oil in

 

I use to work at an oil change place, we got some civics and accords in there that we drained less than a quart of oil out and they still ran fine. But running your car that low on oil probably isnt a great idea

 

whenever you drain the oil, you never get all of it out. there still will be a film on all the bearings and all the surfaces. its never a good idea to run the motor without fresh oil being pushed into all the bearings by the oilpump. it doesnt take much to overheat the barings, and score them. as an extra precausion i even fill the oil filter with oil (even though every manual says you dont have to do this) so i dont have a few seconds without oil. i guess i dont understand how anyone could forget to put oil in their motor, or even run it out of oil.

 

When i worked at this one shop this idiot there did an oil change and forgot to add oil . I say the car was ran a good 5mins without oil before the owner noticed her oil light was on and came back.

End Results? Added oil asap and didnt cause no damage


So im sure if you ran it for a tiny while it didnt do no damage, learn from mistakes

 

i forgot to put on the oil filter... but i remember to put in 4 quart... so it was a big mess... anymore stories?

 

i put on a filter when i worked at a speede lube and the old oil filter gasket was stuck on there.. so i double rubberd it.. the oil squirted out all over the floor.. then there was this time my friend and me were changin his oil in his turbo lude and i accidentally hit the oil press gague line and didn't notice and all the oil squirted out ...lol

 

doesn't seem to good. hope you don't have any bearing problems now.

 

how did you forget the oil filter? That's no good, hope to didn't screw nothing up.
