length...GSR's I know have a different length cat/exhaust system up until 2000 when they finally made them the same length throughout the model lineup

The header is what makes the length difference on the GS-R.
The cat on the Type R supposedly flows a little better looking at Comptech's flowbench tests they did awhile back.

Oh yeah also both the Type R and LS cat (OBD2) have one O2 sensor in the cat while the GS-R cat has two. The primary O2 sensor is placed in the header on the LS and Type R.
