Default Rate my brake setup

K I am debating whether or not to piece together my own kit or go with the aem big brake kit. I will be doing some autocross and drag racing, with my car as a daily driver. I was going to go with brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors, AEM pads, goodrich stainless steal lines using stock calipers. Peacing this together is like 100+ cheaper than buying the aem kit. Let me know if this is a good setup for autocross/drag race..

Stick your OEM rotors back on, get some Hawk HP+, and be done with it.

xdrilled = crap.

Read this: http://www.teamscr.com/grmbrakes.htm
and http://www.teamscr.com/rotors.htm
and http://www.stoptech.com/technical/

Figure out what is *really* stopping your car, and try again.

Um, OK, autocross and drag racing...

What part of either of those requires anything better than OEM pads and a properly functioning brakes (no air in the lines, and no sticky calipers, etc).

Unless you are a really heavy left foot braker (and I suspect you are not), then there is no need to spend the money upgrading the brakes, it will make little or no difference.

The right set of pads will help, but that will change from autocross to autocross, so why not just go to the parts store and get a good set of Raybestos PG or similar?

I have a 2000 Celica with over 400 autocross runs on it (that is a lot) and about 15 1/4 mile passes, and another 48,000 miles of random driving. I'm still on the OEM pads that came on the car, the rotors have never been turned either. I've never experienced brake fade at an autocross either (even the ones where I went over 80 mph). There are few cars out there that will out brake mine.

the brake lines might make a small difference in pedal feel, but won't make you stop faster.

You want to stop faster? get stickier tires.

I'm not sure how set up your car is, and I don't know drag regulations, but if you're pulling over 120 in the quarter, you may want to consider a parachute setup.
These claim to be good for up to 200mph.

As for Hawk HP+, I believe I picked mine up for like $65-70 for the fronts. You can get them at http://www.tirerack.com as well.

Also note that a 2000 Celica most likely has much better braking perfomance than Hondas, as many claim the Celica's brakes to be quite good from the factory.

Different car = different story.

To add a different, yet more familiar story, my 92 GSR braking performance increased drastically with the addition of Axxis Ultimate pads and Brembo OEs.

dont bother with that crap
stock rotors, some good pads good fluid and maybe stainless lines (only for track events)

it will stop you better than that aem crap.

Ya know, I auto-x'ed my roomates GT-S, and I didn't like the brakes. Great feel to them, but by the end of a 1 minute run, they were not braking as well. I think they were glazed. Stock pads. I think the damn thing just needs real pads.

I just bought some Ultimates from http://www.cobaltbrakes.com/
Run Ate Super blue as well. These pads I have to say are sweet! I run P+ for track days, and these things of cource dont have the bite of the P+, but for a street/autox pad they are very nice. Andie got me a nice price on these too. HT members get 10%.
