Mulberry tree messing up my finish. Looking for detailing advice.
I thought there was a forum here specifically for auto detailing topics, but I guess it's gone now so I'm asking here.
For the last 2.5 years or so, I had to park under a stupid mulberry tree. For most of that time, I'd kept the car washed and waxed, but even then the mulberry splats on the hood were visible on the surface of the finish. It got too depressing to keep trying, so for the last eight months or so, I didn't even wash it.
Now the thing is covered in phantom mulberry splats, as well as a fine dusting of sap. The stuff won't come off with normal washing and waxing. It looks like it's all on the surface, though, so I think it should mostly come off. What I'm wondering is, what is the best way to take care of this stuff. Clay bar? Buffing with polishing compound? Find a better soap?
I had the whole car repainted two years ago, and I don't want to use something that will strip off the clear coat if I can avoid it. Any advice will be appreciated.

Bwahahahaha!
Don't think the idea didn't cross my mind. About three times a day!
Opie: Yeah, that's probably what I'll have to do. I don't have to park under the tree anymore. It was over my assigned spot in the apartment complex where I lived (what kind of idiot plants a berry-dropping tree in a parking lot?), but since I had to leave there and go back to that hellhole know as Carrollton I can stop worrying about trees. All I have to worry about are thieves now.

and here is the porter cable buffer I used to do it.....
amazing.....

It took all of the chalky residue off of the plastic and brought the cars shine back to showroom condition.......
It removed most of the fine scratches in the clear coat too along w/ some water spots....

i would go with a clay bar, then wax again... but then again i am not a professional detailer... i do have a solid peice advice though, buy a car cover of some sorts to protect it from the tree ish, and to preserve the hard work and or money you put into the detail, gl...
