Please help me identify this transmission. (big pics)
I bought a transmission off eBay for my 97 LX, but I don't think I received what I paid for. Seller said the tranny was out of a 2000 DX with 36k on it. I received it today, and it's obvious it's got more than 36k on it. It's been sealed up with red RTV, so it's been open for some reason. There are no identifying marks (the ID plate is gone) except the U4 on top, which probably doesn't mean anything. Can anyone help me identify this transmission? My old one is in a few, it's the one with the dirty bellhousing.

1. On the bellhousing side, opposite the driveshaft the bellhousing wall is "double", whereas mine is single.
2. There is a flange that runs around the driveshaft that mine doesn't have.
3. On the back, above where the shift linkage attaches, there are two large holes and two small ones. Mine doesn't have that.
There are quite a few other minor differences. I've been searching for pics of other transmissions, and I have a feeling this one is from a much earlier than 2000 Civic. And it definitely doesn't have 36k on it. But if somebody has some concrete info, I would greatly appreciate it.

There should be a circle with either a A00 or a B00 on the casing somewhere. If its A00 its a dx/lx/cx trans. If its a B00 its a ex/si trans

its an ex/si tranny if its b000. either pull it apart or just put it on, itll work just fine cause its a hydro, and anything from 92-00 single cam trannys will work.

This is none of those things.
I would bet that it works fine, but it's the principle of the thing at this point.

Well you got a pre 96(no vin plate) ex/si short geared tranny.

Is there an authoritative reference for that tidbit somewhere? Not that I don't believe you, but I'm not the one that needs to be convinced.

ANY B000 trans is NOT geared for fuel efficiency. If it's a B000 from a 92-95 Civic, it's from the EX model and is made mostly of aluminum. If it's a B000 from a 96-98 EX/Si or 99-00 EX Civic, is made mostly of steel and is even LESS fuel efficient that the 92-95.
You want an A000 transmission which comes from 92-00 DX, HX, LX, CX, VX... Civics.
