Need some help here
Well earlier today i went and got some gas for my car, so as im coming home i kinda got on it.
Then after that i felt something fall off the car on the driver side, then my car starts screeching, a loud screeching noise.
I turn the car off and start it again and it still screeches but then it goes away.
So when i come home i try to start the car and it keeps turning off and screeching,
it seems to be starting fine now but it still screechs when i first start it then when i give it some gas it goes away, but i can still hear a little chirp when ever i rev it at all.
Im guessing it has something to do with the timing belt?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
it's most likely one of your drive belts, not your timing belt. If your timing belt skipped more than about 1 tooth, your car wouldn't start ever again till you either replaced the belt or got a new head/bottom end.
Check your drive belts. Alternator, PS., AC.
Dont really know why your car would just turn off...unless one of your pullies is stuck....but then the belt would just shred.
Take it somewhere if you dont know what to look for.

B Serious is probably correct. That's a very familiar sound to anyone whose gotten water or oil on their drive belts. I believe there's a spray you can put on your belts to get the friction back and stop the screeching. Go to an auto parts store and see if they can help you. I would avoid taking it to a mechanic. The only way it'll be worth their time to look at it for you is if the tell you that you have to replace all your belts. They won't go through the effort to find the cheapest solution. Nor should they, if they respect their business.

Belt dressing.
OP: Replacing an accessory belt on a Civic is easy (if the is the cause). No need to take it to a shop if you know a thing or two. Even replacing the AC compressor is not too hard. Get a service manual and read up.

Is belt dressing temporary?

Make sure you've got the right deflection in your belt too!
If the bushings in your idler pulley's are toast, it WILL cut the car off. Not sure about while it's running, but at idle it can. Happened to me just a few months ago. Idler pulley on alternator had all the bearings in it destroyed. Belt squealed, and started smoking/melting ONTO the pulley. It stalled the car out. So much smoke in fact, I thought the damn car was on fire.

The belt dressing is supposed to be permanent, but that doesn't mean you can't cause the sound to come back. If the belts get wet again, they can start squealing again.

What exactly is the water doing to the belt? what else can cause the belt to squeal?(as in water and other liquids or whatever.)
