Hey everybody

This is my first post on this site but I've been popping on and off for a while. You guys have helped me with a lot of issues just by using the search feature. I have a 89 si 2.0 with a manual transmission.... here's my problem:

Sometimes my speedo works and sometimes it doesent. If it does start working while im driving... anytime the speedo works you can feel a surge in the power of the car. It almost feels like a totally different car.

When speedo starts working = more power

on the other hand if the speedo is working and then cuts out... it feels like the car has lost some power.

when the speedo is not working it will sometimes throw a CEL if I allow the car to decelerate in gear. (like when you are coasting down from 65-50 on the interstate while keeping it in 5th gear)

From the research I have down so far... it seems like I don't have a VSS. And if it was just the cable that was bad , I don't feel like that would effect the performance of the car so drastically.

Does anyone have any ideas?
