Default B18A1 All Motor Bulid

Hey guys,

I am getting the parts together for my engine bulid, I want to stay away from Forced Induction or LS/VTEC. I am going all motor. This will be my first motor build. I am waiting on getting a motor stand to get started.

The set-up is as follows:

Block:
B18A1 Block
P30 Pistons Or does anyone have any suggestions on aftermarket brand? I want more compression. As I said I am a noob but I know how to wrench.
ACL Performance Race Main/Rod Bearings
ARP Rod Bolts
ARP Head & Main Studs
shotpeened ls rods or any suggestions on a good rod?
ACL Bearings full gasket kit or cometic (undecided)

Head:
B18A1 Head
Blox Intake Manifold
4-2-1 Race Header
Cometic, Hondata or ACL Race Intake and exhaust gaskets.
3" Intake
Crower 403's
Crower Valve Springs & Ti Retainers
New Steel Valve Locks( anyone know a good brand?)
New Valve Seals ( anyone know a good brand?)
The Oldone Flat faced Valves or any suggestions?
Adjustable Cam gears ( any good brands?)
Blend valve bowls and 3 angle valve job

I am open to all advice and suggestions

Does anyone know any good desktop dyno programs that are cheap or free?

doood, building a non-vtec i such a waste of money!

as for your look for "good brands" for the valve locks and seals, mine are both SPI brand, but OEM seals are just as good.

good luck man.

Just my opinion but if your dead set on doing this ls build. I would go with a b20 just because you have that extra displacement. Get it hone, add RS machine cast pistons so you can run the stock ls rods. If b20 is out the question stick with what you got and bore it .25 over and go with the P30 like u stated.

As far as the head I'd go with the performer X, I like the longer runner design possibly better mid range torque(pretty much what this motor is all about). You're one step behind the biggest streetable cam crower makes why not shoot for the 404 its price has dropped. Flat face valve is a good choice to bump C:R(I've tried searching for a company that makes them but i guess the OLDONE does?). you might want to calculate where you'll be if you mill the head and deck the block. i dunno what kind of 4-2-1 header you have but i'd go with the tri-y replica header best bang for the buck header i've seen dyno on here. Other than that you should be good. I'll be doing the same build sometime in the future. good luck and just go all out on it

yea I am thinking P30 or similar 81.25 mm pistons and having it bored (any clue how much it usually cost to get a block bored?) Staying stock PR4 rods. The problem with the edelbrock victor performer x is its mostly for forced induction use... I am going either blox or skunk2. the 403 is a stage 2 cam and its the most popular all motor cam out there. yes the oldone makes flat face valves. How do I calculate if I did the milling of the head and decking of the block? what is the point tho? Thanks for the advice!

100-200 bore and hone. You're thinking of the victor X(short runner fat plenum) the Performer X(long runner narrow plenum) is geared towards NA builds. check out bearsek build/dyno with 404 cams, it made 205whp.

the performer x isn't a forced-induction specific manifold. the long runners and fairly large plenum give it a great power curve.
