Default Window Mouldings

What's the best way to go about painting when it comes to these? I'm talking about the rubber moulding around the front windshield, rear window and sunroof.

The service manual recommends cutting the moulding out if it's difficult to remove (which it is), but is it easy to replace without removing the windshield? I really want to avoid having to remove the windshield.

Is there a good way to paint around it that won't sacrifice the paint job?

Woops, it's a 1997 Acura 1.6EL. Same body as a 1997 Civic EX.

Well there is not a whole lot of good news here then, you will not be able to reattach the moulding without taking the window out, and as for getting a mouling I know for a fact that the aftermerket as well as the OEM glass for that bodystyle comes with the moulding preattached to the glass, you can get the moulding seperately, but only from the dealer I believe, and be very careful if you want to cut it off because the edge of the glass tends to chip and start to run(crack) if you are not carefull.

Sorry to say, the sunroof moulding should come off, and can be reattached.

As for the back glass, well in some cases you can cut it off( carefully as the back glass is tempered and the edge of the glass is the wekaest spot) and then you can get a new one from either honda or most any glass shop and then put a primerless urethan in the pinchweld area and reafix it.

Yikes - is there any "good" way to tape off the mouldings? Like maybe bend them away from the paint and towards the glass?

You can get a good drapery cord, or rope and use that in behind the moulding to lift it up, then tape behind it...and around it.

try to tape as close to the moudings, and use a small brush, get some rustoluem paint, black, they work good, jsut becareful, if u srapy it , its gonna go everywhere, but if u brush on, then its not bad, if u careful, u wont get on ur paint at all, jsut get teh 2 inch tape both side of paint and window, then just apply the black paint on it happily :D
