HELP! Skunk2 Pro Series Cam Gears DONT FIT
I recently bought a set of Skunk2 Pro Series Adjustable Cam Gears.
Tried to install them and the woodrif(spelling) key does NOT fit inside the Skunk2 Cam Gears. The key is way to big for the hole.
I called Skunk2 and had them sent back for inspection. The guy was a total dick and I couldn't do anything about it because he is the ONLY person working for the Returned Merchandise department. I constantly had to call him (20 times) and leave voicemails which went with no answer. He told me there was a 10 day turn around, I finally received an answer 3 weeks later. He told me that there are "variations" between the key hole and that I should "FILE" on the keyhole myself to get them to fit. He got his to fit into the GSR at the facility.
Has anyone else had this problem with the Skunk2 Cam gears? I really dont want to be filing on an item that will be spinning like crazy.

yea i am definitely not purchasing another skunk2 product. why the hell would their be different variations between the cam gears? im buying the product and i shouldnt have to make ANY adjustments for them to fit into my car
you can find those keys at an ace hardware store as well (and i'd assume at a home depot/lowes... maybe larger selection?)... however, i know they don't have the stock OEM size... but they have others. GL, buddy.

PM user RPRacing, he might be able to help with Skunk and knows the contacts there.
What cams do you have? Did you use the stock keys?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Did your stock keys slide right in? I have stock cams/keys.

Sure did. Only thing different between yours and mine, is the cams. I however had no issues with the old S2S2's and now the Pro 1's. I can double check on the stock cams if needed too. I think I've got a spare set of cam gears around the shop and my stock cams too.

Weird, I wonder why mine didn't slide right in. I did the install with 3 other friends and we all tried to slide it in, but the key is WAY to big. I can't believe the guy tried to tell me to file the cam gears, they should be perfect when I receive them.

Agreed, you should not have to file brand new cam gears. PM RPRacing to find out who his contact is. I want to say it was either Eric or Mark, but I can't be for sure. But those guys are MORE than helpful and will make things right. Seems like a CS issue in their returns dept.
Also, Skunk has a helpdesk setup. I would create an incident with them and take pictures of it not fitting.

You are really making a big deal out of this. Use some 600 grit and a flat surface, and sand the flat side of the key until you get a snug fit. If the key doesn't fit width-wise, lightly sand/file the cam gear. It's really not a big problem.
If these are anything like the Spoons I have, the tolerences are extremely tight and it is easy to get the key to bind and not slide on. Keep trying until you get it.

Hi,
Are the keys too wide or too wide? Was the recess in the cam clean? Make sure that they are cleaned out.
I'd recommend running a file through the slots in the cam rather than playing with the keys. This is in case you ever want to change the gears.
Start by deburring the ends of the sprocket slots.
I've built two stroke racing engines for over 20 years. Hardly anything ever fits perfectly. There are few parts that don't get leaned on in one way or another. Thats one reason they make sandpaper and files.<LOL>

the gear is not wide enough for the key to fit. i just mallet them in they are fine, but yeah file the camgear and get it done with. i had this before even with toda gears.

I'm having the same issue with my Pro Series gears (304-05-5202). The OEM woodruff key doesn't fit. You would think a major company like Skink2 would have a quality control department to make sure basic fitmint issues like this wouldn't get out the door.
